You were sitting in the cafeteria with your friends, passing around a bowl containing names for Secret Santa. The bowl finally made its way around to you, you open the little slip of paper and see Eric's name on it. Goddamn it, what the hell am I supposed to get for Eric?!
Eventually you leave the dinner table, and that night you fell asleep, thinking about what to get for him.
You are searching through the stores in The Pit the next day, with no success. That's when it hit you, you had gotten into a deep conversation with Eric a few months ago when you were cleaning up after training. You had opened up to him about missing a few things about your old faction and surprisingly, he actually agreed with you. He had told you how big a fan he was of classical novels, and you decided that would be the perfect gift.
You were gathered in your apartment on Christmas Eve, getting ready to open Secret Santa presents.
"Alright Eric, it's your turn," Christina says, throwing your neatly wrapped present towards him.
He doesn't say anything and just begins unwrapping it, he holds the book in his hands. His eyes light up slightly, but his expression remains indifferent. Peter takes the book from him, "1984 by George Orwell?"
Eric shrugs, taking it back from him. Peter adds, "Who would get you that?"
"I'm guessing it was just a joke," He says nonchalantly. You can't tell if he's being serious or not, but for some reason his words still kind of hurt.
Everyone eventually leaves, but Eric hangs back. He holds the book up, "Thanks Y/N."
"How did you know it was from me?"
"You're the only one who knew that this was my favourite book," He says, giving you a rare smile.
"Oh..."
You two stand in silence for a moment until he finally says, "Anyways, I think I'm going to call it a night."
"Merry Christmas Eric."
"Merry Christmas Y/N."
