Jackalopes are exactly what they appear to be: a species of Rabbit that have the ability to grow antlers.

All Jackalopes have antlers and they don't shed them at any point of the year. They only come off if they are damaged in some way.

It can take months for the antlers of a fully grown Jackalope to grow back after they are damaged and because they are a Jackalope's main form of defense, they are extremely vulnerable to predators during this time.

Due to their size, Jackalopes are underestimated when it comes to combat and many creatures have found out just how lethal their antlers are the hard way. Many predators refuse to go after Jackalopes because they witnessed what happened to other predators that went after a Jackalope.

Jackalopes give birth to around 4 to 6 young at a time and it can take up to 5 months before their antlers grow in. During this time, their parents are extremely aggressive towards creatures that even come close to their burrows.

The burrows dug by Jackalopes tend to be larger and wider compared to the burrows dug by other species of Rabbit and this is to help accommodate the space their antlers need.

While they don't hibernate, they do spend a majority of the winter in their burrows living off of food they collected during the warmer parts of the year.

They are only found in the Western parts of the United States and a small portion of Northern Mexico.

Extra Fun Fact: Contrary to old cowboy legends, Jackalopes are not as fast as lightning and it is believed that myth started because of how hard it is for a Human to catch a Jackalope.
