A species that was originally Human, Melon Heads are a perfect example of the heinous things that can happen when Humans go too extreme for their beliefs.

Melon Heads were created when a psychotic doctor ( whose name has been lost to time) abducted dozens of street kids and begin experimenting on them in a secret lab deep in the Ohio woods. He believed that Humans had the potential for telekinesis and tried to unlock the ability in the kids. However, he only succeeded in altering their biology so much that they became a different species: Their growth was stunted, their backs become hunched, they lost all their hair, the size of their head drastically increased, they were sterilized, their lifespan was drastically increased, and they lost almost all of their sentience.

Eventually, the authorities caught wind of what was going and raided the lab. However, they were too late. The scientist was dead, slaughtered by his own experiments, and the Melon Heads ( the name the scientist gave them) escaped into the Ohio wilderness.

Although the authorities never found them, sightings of the Melon Heads continue to this day and they almost always occur in extremely secluded areas. Because of this elusiveness, very little is known about Melon Heads.

A couple of copycat psychopaths tried out similar techniques in both Michigan and Connecticut and ended up with almost the exact same results. Melon Heads roam the isolated parts of those states too.

Their inability to live in cold climates whilst wearing little to no clothing has lead many to believe that the experiments also gave them a resistance to the cold, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Based on eyewitness reports, Melon Heads don't communicate to each other verbally and usually just stare at each other as a form of communication. This is why many people believe that Melon Heads gained some form of telepathy because of the experiments.

Extra Fun Fact: Ironically, a Melon Head was once seen near a drive-in movie theater. What was the theater showing: A double feature of " Pumpkinhead" and Pumpkinhead 2: Blood Wings"
