Akhlut are semiaquatic hunters that live in the more colder parts of the world.

Despite appearing Canine-like, Akhlut are actually a species of Whale that look very similar to the the ancestors of modern Whales.

They tend to live in small packs in ice/sea caves, but almost always hunt alone. However, they will occasionally bring food back to the caves for the other pack members to eat.

They do most of their hunting in the water and are master swimmers because of this behavior. They are capable of holding their breath to up to an hour.

They are capable of hunting on land, but don't usually do so do to competition with land carnivores like Wolves and Bears.

They have between 3 to 8 young at a time and the young develop very quickly with their parents beginning to teach them how to swim at around 3 weeks after birth.

While they have nostrils on their snout, they also have a blowhole on their back. Like other whales, they will stay underwater while sticking the blowhole above water so they can breathe while remaining beneath the surface.

In more modern times, a few Inuit tribes have successfully managed to domesticate Akhlut and use them as both land mounts and sea mounts.

Like other animals that live in polar regions, the Akhlut population has been devastated by climate change and they are now considered a Vulnerable species.

Akhlut have been known to help out Orcas and vice versa. If an Orca's prey escapes onto land, an Akhlut will chase it back into the water while some Orcas will team up with Akhlut that are hunting in water.

Extra Fun Fact: Since the Inuit have successfully managed to domesticate Akhlut, they could end up being used as mode of transportation for humans if they ever managed to colonize Antarctica.
