Animal Class: Mollusk

Diet: Carnivorous

Naturally live in the Northern parts of the Atlantic Ocean and the warmer parts of the Arctic Ocean, but some have been sighted as far south as Argentina ( Southern Atlantic)  and as far east as Saudi Arabia( Red Sea)

Highly intelligent creatures, they rival humans when it comes to brainpower. They have their own complex language and use tools. ( many have been seen using broken pieces of sunken ships as weapons)

They can shoot ink out of ink sacs between their gills, but they can also fire it out of very small holes at the end of each tentacle.

The stories of krakens attacking ships is true, but it in now known they most of the attacks were in self defense. ( such as the ships firing cannonballs at krakens or them almost being run over by ships, or even getting hit by the ships)

When females are ready to lay eggs, ( they lay between 3 to 10 eggs at a time) they dive to the deepest and darkest parts of the ocean and lay them there. She will guard them for a few days ( spreading her scent around the surrounding area in order to scare would be predators away) before leaving them to fend for themselves once they hatch. ( it takes about 16 weeks for them to hatch)

They prey on just about every large ocean creature ( whales, sharks, dolphins, mermaids, seals, sea lions, walrus, giant squid), but unlike most ocean creatures, they are not afraid of big storms because to them: dangerous and potentially deadly storms = weakened and easy prey ( they are aware that the storms can harm them too, so if the storms get too bad they dive as deep into the ocean as they can go in order to avoid them)

Their average lifespan is unknown, but an injured female ( that sadly died not long after washing up) that washed up in Ireland was found to be roughly 207 years old.

In some Atlantic Mermaid tribes, it is considered a tradition for mermaids that want to become warriors to either kill a kraken or collect a jug full of kraken ink ( while fighting one) in order to become a warrior.

Extra Fun Fact: In some parts of Ireland, Greenland, and Iceland, people celebrate a " Release the Kraken Day" where they release a young kraken back into the ocean after capturing it ( as peacefully as possible) a few days before. They then spend the rest of the day drinking and partying.
