They parked on the road opposite Meritech Prosthetics and the plan was to wait until they spotted Lance again, or came across anything that hinted as to who the eye would belong to. All they had to do, was wait.
And waiting was extremely boring to Lena.
Before any words between them could be exchanged, Five reached back and readjusted the duffel bag, bringing it closer inbetween the two seats.
Again, Lena thought she heard a clink from inside and narrowed her eyes as Five seemingly ignored it, staring up ahead.
After a few minutes, her fingers started messing with the scratches in the door, her mind asking too many questions that she knew she didnt want the answer to.
Five had looked over at her a few times already, noticing her fidgety state, but said nothing. She always got like this when they had to sit for a long time in wait. It wasn't new.
Coming to terms with her thoughts, she finally snapped out of it and leant down to unzip the duffel bag between them.
"What are you doing?" He asked, eyes immediately shifting to her. She looked up at him as she rummage through the bag, and what she saw in his eyes was something akin to a dull panic.
Her hands found what she was looking for and she pulled a bottle of vodka out. She said nothing but rose an eyebrow at him, annoyance bubbling in her veins.
He looked as though he had been expecting this.
"I'm not drunk," he said defensively.
She shot him a dry look.
Five rolled his eyes and snatched it out of her hands before returning it to the bag. "I'm not, Lena. I'm working."
His tone was laced with venom, and she glared daggers at him because in her head, that had translated to 'I'm working. What are you doing?'
She gave a disapproving hum and sat back, putting the bottle away. "Could have at least got the good kind."
Or tequila.
Sighing, she focused on the building. Her eyes remained on the entrance but she could feel Five's stare burning the side of her head. She refused to turn her head and remained still, though she could see him out of the corner of her eye. And yet, the more his eyes burned into her skull, the more irritated she grew.
If he was studying her expression as deeply as she expected, he should be able to tell that she wasn't entirely thrilled with his secret keeping. The way she set her jaw, the way she chewed on one of ber nails, the way her body was turned away from him, he must have known instantly.
Usually she would have snapped at him or teased him for staring by now. She did not.
"Lena," she finally heard and took her time looking at him.
"What?" She asked as though nothing was wrong.
He hesitated at the calm tone she presented him with and decided to choose his words carefully. For someone who could literally blow smoke out of her ears, Lena wasnt a person you wanted to anger.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I've just got a lot on my mind. I want everything to work out, but..."
Lena frowned deeplh at his response. She knew what he was getting at. What if they failed?
"I wish you would realise..." she murmured in frustration.
He looked at her, confused. "Realised what?"
She gave him a deadpan look. "You know for someone so intelligent, you can be a real idiot sometimes."
He said nothing so she continued.
