When Lena awoke, flashes of the night before flickered through her mind in slow ebbs, like the warping, rouge light creeping through the gap in the curtains. It cast the room in a deep violent glow that was nothing but unsettling.

Something small dug into her cheek as she turned her head against the pillow, making her frown, but she was too exhausted to pick it out of her hair. A bundle of blankets was tangled around her and the figure next to her, clutching her around the middle as though she might disappear at any moment.

She frowned as she tried to remember all of the events from the night before, but instead of it being a concise, linear concept, only bits and pieces jumped out. As she felt the gentle tickle of someone's breath against the crook of her neck, the weight against her side, Lena squinted at the ceiling as though trying to remember something.

She had woken up in the middle of the night with a blaring headache and nothing but ringing in her ears. Turning over and pulling some blankets with her, she expected resistance, but the space next to her in the bed was empty.

Lena recalled dragging herself out of the bed because she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep properly if he wasn't with her. Not to mention it was very rude he wasn't spending the night with her given they'd just been married. (For the second time, but who was counting?)

The corridors all sort of looked the same in her half drunken mind, so it had been a blessing that as the hit the button for the elevator, she found exactly who she was looking for.

She rubbed at her brow. "Ay ay ay..." before stepping into the elevator where her husband lay slumped against the corner, knocked out cold.

His tie was no where in sight. The top couple of buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned and collar crooked, his hair falling messily across his forehead.

She had heaved a heavy sigh before leaning down to pick him up under the arms, trying to drag him out of the elevator before the doors could close on them. She stuck her leg out to keep the sensors alert and struggled, grabbing a fistful of the back of his shirt to give her some better leverage.

As she pulled him into the hallway, slurring a blur of spanish and english swears until they didn't even sound like a real language anymore, he seemed to stir from his drunken stupor.

She didn't hear what he said - something about getting lost.

"You need a tracker..." Lena murmured, catching her breath before hauling him to a stand with one arm under his and around his waist as he held onto the wall.

He groaned under his breath, eyes still closed.

"How'd you even know I was gone?"

"Psychic wife powers," she breathed, blowing a strand of hair out of her face as they eventually made it to their door. "Can you stand on your own?"

He nodded, but the second she left him against the wall she watched him slowly slide down to sit on the floor.

She rested her forehead against the door, heaving a sigh. Her fingers wouldn't work properly as she tried to fumble with the key, fighting to prise her tired eyes open to get a better look at the lock so she could see what she was doing wrong.

"Fuck this stupid fucking door... hostia puta-"

She barely caught herself on the doorway as the door suddenly gave way under all of her pushing. The dark inside of the room span as she righteous herself and grimaced at the pain beginning to pulse through her skull.
