When Five and Lena finally found Lila alone again, it was in a random hallway next to a closet and the maintenance room. Faintly a boiler hummed from the other side of the door.

Lila was perched atop a cleaners trolley in wait. When she saw the two approaching, each had on a new set of clothes.

Five, in a crisp black suit and tie with a white shirt. Lena had on a short sleeved white shirt, black skirt and red tie. His was much straighter than hers and she still refused to swap her clunky boots out for anything smarter.

The woman grinned. "Nice suits."

Five nodded back. "Thanks. Tailor in the lobby is a master craftsman."

There was a glint in her eyes. "But I am going to miss those pasty knees."

Lena twitched a smile, or as best she could as she set her briefcase down. Her and Five had each had time to freshen up and prepare themselves for whatever came next and the bags under each of their eyes were only slightly less apparent.

Five eyed Lila's checkered mini skirt. "Yeah, well, we could all stand to be showing a little less skin these days."

Lena promptly smacked him around the back of his head, eliciting a quiet hey! from the boy.

"I know we are old, cariño, but for heavens sake..." she muttered, shooting him a sharp look.

He rolled his eyes, rubbing the sore spot in annoyance.

"Ready?" Lila hopped down from the trolley.

"Wait," Lena glanced between her and her husband in confusion. "When did you two come up with a plan?"

"When you were too busy taking up all the hot water," he mused, sharing a look with Lila.

Her jaw dropped. "That's not fair... I can't tell how hot the shower was!"

It was true. Half the time she could never tell how dangerously hot the water she was getting into was because her skin reacted differently to temperature. It was the same with hot drinks or food; she could drink coffee boiled straight from the pot without flinching.

He dipped his chin once. "I know, dear, and I don't blame you."

"Thank you."

"But you did spend extra time washing tour hair-"

She pointed a finger at him. "Hey, you try maintaining this much hair." She pointed at her tresses piled into a high ponytail. "It takes time."

Lila snorted, having watched the entire back and forth like an observer of a tennis match. "As much as I enjoy your bickering, can we get to the plan?"

Lena shot her a look. "Yes, and what is the plan?"

When she expected Five to respond, she noticed the way he hesitated and Lila responded instantly with far too much confidence.
