When his siblings left in the wake of her revelation where Diego had to explain his shock, it left Five amused at Lena as she laughed to herself. But when he noticed she had a hand stiffly planted over her hip and her body was completely rigid, his smile disappeared.
"You should sit down."
She swatted his hand away when he tried to help, only just recovering from her laughter, and shook her head. "Don't fucking touch me," she still had a smile on her face, and her tone was light as he frowned in confusion and she sighed.
"What?"
"You locked the fucking door."
He noted the seriousness in her tone and realised his mistake, closing his eyes. "I- yes, i did. But it wasn't-"
"-you locked me away like a dog," she said stiffly, expression darkening.
"Okay, what happened to Cariño?" He rubbed the space between his eyebrows.
"Chinga tu madre."
"Lena." He attempted to get closer to her and he could see the heavy look in her eyes, hiding what she was really feeling. "I had to do it to get them to shut up."
She nodded, lips pressed together. Hurt lined her face, and not the physical kind.
She had felt it the entire time, like she was trapped again in a small room as a punishment that she couldnt escape, back in the commission, back under constant watch and fear.
Her anger had kept her from thinking about it at first, but now his siblings were gone it was all she could think about. The fact that he had locked the door on her. He had locked her in his room. Because they were intimidated by her. How could he do that?
"You know I can't-" she closed her eyes. "Why would you do that, Five?"
"It's not what you think." He said gently, regretting his actions.
She brushed some of her hair back from her face, growing hot under the skin. "You locked me away. You know she used to-"
"-I know," he admitted sadly. He tried to hold her hand and his cold fingertips met her hot ones. She swallowed. "I didn't do it for them!" He tightened his hold on her hand and she looked him in the eye. "I did it to keep them away from you!"
She said nothing.
"I did it because I dont trust them, Lena, not you," he said. "I didn't know you'd wake up. I wouldn't have done it if I knew you were going to because I knew you'd panic."
She nodded numbly, swallowing the lump in her throat, happy with that answer but still feeling the crippling fear underlying in her troubled thoughts.
"Come here." He uttered softly, tugging her close by the hand.
She wrapped one arm around his neck and they embraced, her other still firmly over her hip. The feeling of his body against hers cooled her down, calmed her racing heart, and she swallowed her emotions back. She pressed her face into the crook of his neck.
She focused on his breathing against her shoudler, his hands pressed against her body, and she said nothing. Because she cannot get any words out.
She just grips him as though if she'll let go he'll disappear forever.
"You know I'm sorry, right?" He mumbled, almost afraid.
She nodded against him, simply holding him tighter for comfort.
She was trying not to think about the commission. "Did I really burn your mom?"
She pulled away slightly to look at him and he kept his arms around her midsection so she stayed close. Her fingers mess with the hair at the base of his neck, very much aware of the shiver that travels up his spine as he tries to keep his expression calm.
"Yeah, but she's a robot," he shrugged lightly. "She didn't feel it and then forgot about it ten minutes later."
Lena sighed in amusement and shook her head.
"Remind me to thank her later."
He gave her a look. "I don't think that's top of our priority list right now."
She gave him a look that rivalled his own.
"It doesnt kill to show kindness sometimes, you know that, right?"
He smirked down at her, their noses almost touching and whispered. "Is that what that was out there?"
"Yes, it was," she said lightly and seriously. "It was kind of me to not set their shoes on fire and watch them dance for my amusement."
His smirk grew as he looked down at her. "You're really hot right now."
"I know." Was her immediate response.
He rolled his eyes and loosened his hold on her, his own skin growing warm just at their vicinity. "Not what I meant and you know it."
She hummed. "But I am hot, though."
"Yes, dear."
