Five was reclined in the back of the car with his legs rested up against the backs of the passenger seat. Sunglasses perched on his head as the radio played music for them both to listen to. He was happily drawing circles along the map for anything that looked interesting enough to visit, the car door open due to the heat.Lena, however, was thriving in the warmth of the sun, unbothered by the sound of the cows in the field nearby mooing and grazing.
She had climbed up onto the hood of the car Five minutes ago, making him glance up at her through the window. She had winked and laid her jacket out across the top of the car and climbed up so she could lie down and sunbathe.
The warmth was relaxing, soothing, and she nearly drifted off to sleep multiple times. The pain in her leg felt like a distant memory, the worries of yesterday drifting away with the clouds and the light country air.
Occasionally when a song they both knew came on they'd start singing together, not particularly well as they'd forget the words halfway through and one would have to remind the other. If all else failed, Lena would sing the lyrics in Spanish.
This prompted Five to sing louder in English just to annoy her until she was giggling and singing louder than him.
"Listen baby... Aint no mountain high, ain't no valley low-"
"-aint no river wide enough baby!"
"What happened to the Spanish version?" Five called out. "I was enjoying it."
She turned over with a grin, leaning her head down over the side so she faced him upside down, hair hanging messily around her face. "If you need me, call me, no matter where you are. No matter how far-"
He angled his head round and couldn't help himself. "Don't worry baby..."
She broke off into giggles and watched him grin back at her.
Lena drummed her hands to the beat of the song across the edge of the roof, and he nodded his head along to the tune, turning the volume dial up slightly.
She was unable to stop herself from reaching out to him dramatically at one point, her favourite part coming up.
"My love is alive, way down in my heart," she brought the hand in towards her. "although we are miles apart."
He smirked down at the map but had to continue. "If you ever need a helping hand, ill be there on the double just as fast as I can."
They both broke out into the chorus with wide grins, fighting back their laughter at how childish they were being. Neither could help it. It had been so long since they'd done something so freeing and without judgement of others.
Lena returned to sunbathing on the roof of the car, tapping her hands along her stomach to the music.
She was concious of how light her heart felt and as the song changed, she spoke.
