James Potter P.O.V.

James loved the summer, but he sure as hell hated this one.

Ever since he had started Hogwarts, there were three things that made summer amazing for the boy. His friends, beach barbecue bonfires, and Daisy Wood.

His friends usually visited him at least once every two weeks for days at a time. They would pull pranks on his annoyed brother and run around town or fly their brooms around the house. However, he hadn't seen his friends since summer had started. Now, it was the third week of summer. He had barely pulled any pranks; it wasn't the same alone.

Of course, the beach was always there. He had gone with the Weasley children a few times, including Gwen, Rose, Hugo, Fred, Roxanne, Dominique, Louis, Lucy, Molly, and his siblings: Remus and Lily. However, this summer, they had had fewer barbecues and bonfires than he would prefer. He wasn't sure of the reason; James thought it might have been because this summer had a severe heat wave for a few weeks.

And Daisy, well, James didn't like thinking about her much. But he couldn't help himself. Whenever he was bored, whenever he wished for more company to throw barbecues with, all he could long for was the blonde girl. He had even dreamt of her a few times. He could not catch a break, even in his sleep. He blamed himself for the reason she was mad. He wondered daily if she would ever forgive him.

He awoke on a particularly hot summer day, July 23rd, 2020. He yawned, looking at the clock on his bedside table reading seven-thirty. He wondered why he had woken up so early.

James looked down and saw Snuffles, who had been shaking his bed. He stroked the excited Niffler's fur before sending it off.

He was not particularly happy to be woken up. He had been having the most interesting dream, once again about Daisy Wood. In it, he had finally won her over and she was confessing her love to him and he was gallantly giving her bouquets of daisies and for once, she was accepting them.

He shrugged on a plain blue t-shirt and some comfortable black basketball shorts. He looked in his bathroom mirror and ruffled his hair. After brushing his teeth, he went over to his desk.

His mind was messy, and so was his desk. There were piles of crumpled paper on it, and he was about to add to the bunch with yet another letter, still addressed to the same person.

Dear Daisy,

You were in my dreams again. I won't tell you what it was about unless you ask me in person. It's a bit embarrassing. But how much more could I possibly embarrass myself?

I haven't got many plans today. We haven't had a barbecue in a week. What's summer for if not barbecues and seeing you?

You're probably having a nice summer reading, doing homework, and playing Quidditch. Don't overwork yourself, alright?

Thomas told me you're excited to visit. I bet it's not for me, but can't a lad hope? I'm excited to see you, Daisy. A bit nervous, though. Please don't be so hostile, even though I know I deserve it.

Mum and Dad yelled at me once they found out. Apparently, they think I'm prejudiced against Slytherins and I should never do something like that, especially without a good reason. I know they're right but everybody makes mistakes. I made a huge one.

My lady, I am a wreck without you. I need you here before I actually go mad. I miss you and Thomas and Benjamin and Marlee. I've seen Gwen a lot, of course, since she's practically family.

Have a great day. I hope you're doing well. See you soon.

Yours,

James
