Do you know that feeling when you go hiking, or sometimes just for a walk, and after 5 steps uphill you don't feel like it anymore and just want to go home again? Tom and I had been walking uphill through Paris for a good 25 minutes now, but I didn't mind because there was a new spectacle around every corner, that I didn't even notice how far we walked. The first streets were full of little restaurants, bakers selling macaroons and ice cream parlours. On every corner, really! Then we pushed our way through a small festival where old couples and families were dancing, but as I mentioned, we didn't stay there. From then on there were only alleys, all with cute little houses where plants grew up the walls, but all of them gloomy, no lights on and I felt like Tom and I were the only ones alive at this point.
"At first I thought it was nice, but it's starting to give me the creeps." I stated, looking around. Now that I was no longer enjoying it so much, it was getting exhausting to walk uphill, and the path just didn't seem to stop. Every now and then there were old men sitting outside the small houses smoking a cigar or playing poker with their buddies.
"We are almost there darling." I just held on to Tom's hand even tighter as we passed another group of men all laughing in a low grumble with a cigar in their hands and lots of alcohol bottles on the small white plastic table. They were not particularly different from the ones we have seen so far, but something about them just gave me the chills. Whether it was the way all their eyes immediately spotted us both in the dark alley, or the way they wouldn't stop starring at us the closer we got. It seemed even Tom was a little freaked out, because just as we passed them, he pulled me to his left, away from the men, and his hand came protectively around my waist, holding me as close as he could while we walked.
"Quelle femme sexy vous avez avec vous !" Tom clenched his jaw, even though he had understood nothing. His fingertips pressed into my hip flesh, wanting me closer than I already was, but he managed to ignore the men, even though I knew he would have loved to break their jaws.
"Combien coûte un tour ?" This time they all started laughing, Tom not so much. Neither of us was a pro at French, but we understood a word or two, so we could guess what it was about when the men also started whistling once we were almost past them.
And it disgusted me how they talked and thought about me- Women in general.

Tom pressed me against him, put his lips to my temple and gave me a long, warm kiss that made the butterflies in my stomach go crazy. It was as if every day I got to spend with him, a new butterfly came to life in my belly.
But by now, I certainly had already a full army living inside of me, making sure I would never fall out of love with Tom.
"I won't ever let a man harm you!" He whispered after 5 minutes of silence to calm himself down, and then we had reached the top. No more uphill, no more men to harass or- people in general, because there was non other than Tom and me on this lonely square. It almost even felt as if we were the only two people left in the whole world, but with the view I witnessed, the thought quickly vanished away.

It was breathtaking. Trees surrounded us to the right and left, but there was a small gap in between with a park bench in the middle. It offered an incredible view of the city.
"Tom... wow." My breath was taken away. "How do you know this place?" After all, we've never been to Paris before, and his mobile phone was empty, wasn't it? so did he follow his instincts? or how did he find this way up here?
"Jacob brought me here back then." I looked up at him, his face dark from the lack of light on the mountain. But Jacob? I was confused, my Jacob? I wanted to ask but-
"My Ja-" He didn't let me finish the question, starring down at me with his jaw clenched.
"Batalon." He clarified, looking ahead again. Fingertips in my flesh tightened. I still wondered why Jacob had brought him up here but it was like Tom could read my mind as he continued- "We were in Paris for a weekend when Spiderman Homecoming was being filmed. And when we went to the restaurant earlier, I recognised the street. Just a few doors down, I was having dinner with Jacob, his girlfriend and Zendaya that one evening. Afterwards he showed us this place and said 'no matter which way you go, you'll always end up here, for real!'" He let out a chuckle at the flashback, and then he said- "It was so magical. That night I vowed to bring my wife here one day. To share this moment with her and-" He stopped again, shook his head and let out a deep sigh through his nostrils. I wondered what was going through his head, why he didn't keep talking? but judging by the look on his face, he was too uncomfortable. Like it was too cheesy to say out loud, or something he was never wanting to share in the first place.
