Y/N's pov~
It was 10 when we had breakfast together.
11 when the first ones went swimming.
12 when Sam came to the garden with sliced watermelon.
1 when Tom and Harrison disappeared.
2 when Ciara and Harry had another argument in the house.
3 when I decided to try on my new dress.
4 when Harry wanted to show me his latest pictures in the garden.
And 5 when Harrison came back just as I had settled on the couch for a bit of rest."Get up. We're going somewhere." He didn't wait for an answer as he ran upstairs and came back down a minute later with a jacket. I hadn't moved yet, but Harrison's look didn't allow for any delay.
I stood up, walked to the kitchen, and grabbed another piece of watermelon.
"Come on, Y/N. We don't have time for that," he urged. I had no idea what he had planned, but Josephine and Hero were still by the water and no one was rushing them to put on their shoes.
"Why the rush? Did someone get hurt?" was my first thought. Then I realized I hadn't seen Parker for over thirty minutes, and my face went pale. "Is Parker still alive?" I asked, causing Harrison to furrow his brows.
"Yes, he's fine. Now come on." He grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the house. Knowing the pregnancy was taking its toll on me, he kept holding my hand for the next ten minutes as he led us through the forest, further and further away from the house.
The birds chirped in the trees, and the leaves rustled on the branches. I carefully placed each step to avoid tripping and pulling Harrison down with me.
"If you're trying to kidnap me, this isn't a good move. If Tom finds out, he'll—"
"Kill you. Exactly." I flinched at the deep voice, not belonging to Harrison, nor me. We came to a sudden stop, and as my eyes finally lifted from the rough ground, my jaw nearly hitting the floor.
Short buzzcut hair, the hint of curls. Traces of a beard, a chiseled face. A scar on the nose, two cuts in the eyebrows. Tom.
But it wasn't just Tom that left me speechless. It was the surroundings. The blanket spread on the ground. The picnic basket at the edge. The string lights in the trees. The freshly picked flowers. The towels, in case we wanted to swim. The perfect view of the lake. They had planned this together. More importantly, Tom had set this up.
In a white linen shirt and black linen pants, he looked every bit the cliché prince.
"Thanks, mate, I'll take it from here." Tom nodded to his best friend, who quickly released my hand, and I nearly collapsed if Tom hadn't reached out and steadied me.
"I didn't mean to scare you," he noted, seeing how terrified I looked, unable to show the boundless joy that hid deep within me. I could hardly believe I was standing in the middle of an enchanted fairytale forest, and that with... with my ex-husband.
He looked me up and down, my messy bun not quite matching the picturesque picnic Tom had prepared, though my dress elicited a broad grin from him.
"You look... absolutely ineffable..." Tom said, his eyes lingering on my baby bump with genuine admiration. He led us a step closer to the picnic blanket spread on the ground, complete with an unopened deck of cards and wine glasses filled with grape juice.
"What is this?" I asked, glancing around to take in every delightful detail, unable to hide my pleasure.
"You said you didn't want a date with me, and I respect that. So, we're having a totally normal meeting, just like any other couple in the midst of a divorce would," he said, his description sounding so absurd that I couldn't help but laugh. Tom helped me down to the blanket before taking his place beside me.
