"What a pleasure to finally meet you in person Y/N! Let me introduce you!" I shook the hand of the man in front of me. With dark grey hair, deep blue eyes, tanned skin and a tailored suit, I introduced myself to Reez Van der Hoot. Half Portuguese, half Dutch. The 55-year-old was a director in person.
Commanding, charismatic, confident.
He was all and more.My polite smile seemed to be enough for him as he turned to the table and introduced me to everyone individually. Each of the 6 people I could count seemed delighted and entertained. With a broad smile where even dimpels appeared, a blond man in his mid-30s smiled up at me. His teeth whiter than the tablecloth.
"That's Clark. No, don't worry, he won't be your co-star, he's only here because Marissa dragged him along." He nodded over to Marissa. Mid-40s, brown hair in a loose braid with strands hanging out. Creoles dangling from her ears as she sipped her wine and held a conversation with her seat partner.
"Pleasure to meet you!" I smiled at him, his mahogany brown eyes radiating a richness as a sparkle flicked through them.
"That's the famous Y/N? The pleasure is all mine!" He exclaimed and extended his hand, one beautiful golden wedding ring wrapped around his finger, although I would have never guessed he was married. A smirk formed on his lips when he noticed where my eyes had wandered. I shook it anyway, the cold ring running a shiver down my spine. We didn't make any more eye contact before Reez took us to the next member. There was a young lady sitting next to Clark. She had gorgeous red curls and her floral perfume immediately tickled my nose as we approached. She must have been about my age, was also wearing a Bordeaux red dress with flowers and had very pale skin.
"Maeve, didn't we agree to wearing less flowery clothes?" She grinned from ear to ear at his sarcastic undertone, giving us her whole attention.
"Yes chef!" She answered.
"Meave is from our sound department." Reez explained as I exchanged eye contact with her. She was a little chubbier, yet absolutely beautiful and I could tell she would have one of the most loving personalities at this table. There were four people remaining, so let me make this quick. After I introduced myself to Maeve, there was Dave. He was 42, in charge of lighting, and seemed to be a good buddy of Reez. He was the one who had engaged Marissa in deep conversation which we had to interrupt. And so we came to Marissa who was the screen writer. I had texted with her occasionally but not much. Then came Veronica, the assistant on set with natural black hair and red lips. She was in her late twenties and close to Jackson, our film editor who was having black hair too. Of course, these were by far not all of my co-workers, but I assumed those who had already arrived, had time and were also close to the team. Yet there remained one seat empty. The one just across from me and I couldn't help wondering who it belonged to.
I put my purse down next to my leg after I had taken my seat, and took a look at the menu as everyone at the table did. I started by choosing something to drink, but I assumed the several bottles of wine on the table belonged to everyone. Dave was kind enough to advise me on the wine and we started making small talk. Just like I bragged about Parker, he told me all about his eldest son who was now 12.
"Just the other day Bryson came home from school, threw his bag in the corner and said, "Dad, if I don't retire soon, this is going to be my midlife crisis."" I laughed out loud, quickly hiding my smile under a sip of wine as I continued to listen to Dave's story. "Believe me, this boy takes after his father. His mother on the other hand is a hard working business woman in the real estate industry. God how I'd give myself a bullet if I worked as hard as she does every day."
"You better get started anytime soon or you won't be working at all anymore." Reez warned from across the table, having listened carefully to our conversation.
"Yeah yeah, Chef." I couldn't help but wonder what it was with the chef. Of course Reez had a higher say than the others did, but it seemed to be some kind of insider between them, and I desperately wanted to catch up on that.
"Why do you all call him Chef?" I questioned. Reez was engaged in conversation with Clark again, and just as Dave was about to start explaining it to me, the door of the restaurant opened and a fresh breeze flew towards me. Which- couldn't have been, because the restaurant was on the top floor of the hotel-fortunately for me- and the only door was the elevator door apart from the stairs, which obviously no one took.
