Y/N's pov~

Nikki insisted on having a family dinner with her sons and their girlfriends at least once a month. It had been four months since the last one, and although none of her four sons longed for it, they were persuaded by their girlfriends or in my case, wife. Poor Paddy had no choice when he had to face Dom, who, despite Paddy being 18 already, still called the shots. While Tom wasn't thrilled when I told him we'd be going to a theater play beforehand, I promised to make it up to him in the evening.

The theater was my suggestion since I knew Nikki loved attending performances as much as she enjoyed watching operas while dabbing at her tears with a tissue. Dom tended to cater more to his sons, accompanying his wife only if they would later visit a comedy club—his absolute favorite activity that Tom never quite understood. "What's so funny about some bloke tearing you down in front of a whole audience?" were his words. I guess it was because Tom couldn't stay quiet if that happened to him. Not that Tom was insecure about his appearance, I doubted that, but he did have a tendency to get into trouble quickly.

Now, I found myself in a sleek, fitted black dress, draped with a classy overcoat, alongside Ciara in front of the theatre. Though Tom and Parker were still by my side, I swiftly noticed that Ciara actually wanted to have another word with me in private. Granted, Harry wasn't standing with us, but Tom could hardly venture off to his other siblings. Sam and Lily were the only ones missing. When they arrived ten minutes later, my heart sank into my boots as I spotted the dark hair next to him. He'd brought Lea, her dress hugging tighter than Nikki's opera gloves. I immediately turned to Tom, glanced back to see if he'd spotted them, but what could I have expected?
He watched as she hugged Paddy, ruffled his hair, and I swear I saw him wipe his cheek afterwards, grimacing. I couldn't fathom why until she hugged me, and her perfume smelt like toxic fumes, eating away at my insides, almost corrosive.

Sam, on the other hand, gave me a warm hug, his scent a pleasant contrast to that of his girlfriend. He also managed to give Parker a high-five, but when it came to Tom, it seemed like he'd made some sort of pact with his brothers not to even glance at him. He was gone before he even arrived. And when Lea tried to hug Tom, it went downhill just as fast. She tried to play it off cool as she wrapped her arms around his upper body in a friendly gesture, but his hands remained steadfastly in his coat pockets. Not a single "hey." Or "how are you." Leaving his mouth.

"I'm gonna go drown myself in the toilet." He grumbled into my ear as he walked in. A smile crept onto my lips at the thought that he would be tormented for the next two hours. Yet, that wasn't even the worst part. I had left the booking to Nikki, and since we were 11 people and impossible to sit together, she divided us into three groups. Now, I was sitting in the front with Ciara, Lea, Parker, and Lily, a few seats next to us were Dom and his wife, and a bit further back were the boys. Not next to each other because that was tough too, but two in one row and two right behind. On one hand, Tom was lucky to sit in the front row, having only one brother next to him, turning out to be Harry, and not having to endure the crap that Paddy and Sam would pull. On the other hand, the two were now sitting behind him and could provoke him enough that I was a bit paranoid, sitting quietly in my seat and repeatedly turning around to check how it was going.
Each time finding is eyes already lingering on me, as if I were a screen about to show a movie at any given moment.

I glanced over as Paddy stood up, probably heading to the bathroom again, deliberately nudging Tom's head forward. Tom clenched his jaw but stayed calm, pressing his fingers into the bicep crossed over his chest. I was proud of hin, throwing him a soft smile before turning to Ciara.
"Hey, has Harry said anything about Tom again?" I kept wondering if Harry might have filled her in on their plan. All three of them were distant with him, and while each had their own reasons, I was pretty sure this time they were all aligned: Tom's attempt to beat up Harry. Or more like- Tom's attempt to get his phone back. But I wasn't sure what Harry had told his brothers, yet I suspected it wasn't anything remotely close to something nice.
"No nothing! But I can see it too!" She marveled as she glanced back, observing Harry joking around with Sam, while Tom sat excluded, tapping away on his phone until the show was to begin.
"What?" Lea's head peeked out, with little Lily sitting on her lap. She seemed clueless about what we were discussing, and I wasn't exactly in the mood to explain it to her either, especially when my phone suddenly buzzed with a new message. I left it for Ciara to explain.

Tom:
Having fun watching me?
05:56pm.

I chuckled reading the message, glanced back to see if he was still looking at me, and he was—caught red-handed.

Y/N:
I do. Do you have fun watching me laugh at you?
05:57pm.

Tom:
Not one bit.
05:57pm.

"Ladies and gentlemen, dear adults, dear children," began the introduction of the theater play. The lights dimmed, and a hush fell over the audience. For the next three minutes, the lady behind the speakers expressed joy at performing that evening and mentioned something about the theater being fully booked. Although I tried to listen, her voice was quite soporific, and my eyes kept wandering around the vast room. "...enjoy the performance for the next three hours."

The following message couldn't have appeared on my screen any faster.

Tom:
THREE FUCKING HOURS?! FUCK TONIGHT! YOU'LL HAVE TO MAKE IT UP TO ME BEFORE THIS BLOOMY PLAY HITS HALFTIME!
06:04pm

Blush crept up my cheeks, instantly adding ten degrees to the room's warmth. There was no time to turn back; the first actor was already on stage.
"Holy crap!" Ciara gasped, starring at my dimmed screen displaying the open conversation with Tom. "You better be a good sucker." She whispered and I slapped her knee, hoping she didn't just say that out loud.
Fortunately, she quickly dropped the text, and both of us tried to focus on the play, one more than the other.
