"Arrogance is a creature. It does not have senses. It has only a sharp tongue and a pointed finger."

THE LAST THING SAM NEEDED on his plate was an unexpected visit from two very evidently upset individuals who had been ignoring his texts and his sparse calls. At least, that's what it seemed like from Lucy's stance. She could see the stress on his expression, whether or not he meant to look that way. Her eyes followed him as he walked down the stairs with a duffel bag, followed by a younger man behind him.

She met Sam's eyes and he let out an inaudible groan.

James stared at Sam with contempt, and Sam let out a long sigh as he walked towards them. The airmen behind him followed, still talking to him as he came to the end of the stairs. Lucy watched as James padded forwards to meet him.

"Shouldn't have given up the shield!" James called, his tone clearly upset.

"Good to see you too, Buck." Sam exhaled.

He walked past him, shaking his head slightly with an annoyed expression. Lucy looked at him with a raised eyebrow, rubbing her hand through Alpine's fur. Sam looked at her, before letting out another groan.

"And you too, Lucy." He said.

Lucy tilted her head at him and Sam grimaced as he stepped past her too. She walked besides James as they followed after Sam, his pace rather quick. He was obviously busy, but neither of them really had the time to care, not when the shield was in some random man's arm.

James frowned.

"This is wrong." He said firmly.

Sam paused.

"Hey, hey, look, I'm working, all right?" Sam huffed. "So all this outrage is gonna have to wait."

Lucy shook her head at him.

"That's not really possible, Sam." Lucy retorted, her hand stilling in Alpine's fur.

"Look," Sam started, "I have work—"

"What, you didn't know that was gonna happen?" James snapped angrily.

Sam slowed down his pace, turning to face both of them as they walked towards the broad exit of the Air base, the warehouse-like area nearly empty of all planes.
