"Those eyes belong to the devil."

"HOW IS MY GRANDSON doing?" Joseph asked as they jogged across the sidewalk, following Lucy's soul-intuition. "Got any girls in his life?

She knew James and Sam were heading towards the same place she was, because there souls moved in such a direction that made her closer to them. Plus, the three of them needed to deal with the disaster John Walker was, and also the consequences of murdering someone in broad daylight.

She and Joseph had passed the bloody scene after all.

She glanced at him, pursing her lips at the thought of Brock.

She didn't want Joseph to be upset with him, but she also didn't want to lie to him either. She guessed the latter was better than giving him false hope about his lineage.

"He has a husband." She replied.

She turned her head, looking ahead of her.

She still had the urge to puke every once in a while, but she kept it down as she struggled to keep her eyes from darting across the spinning landscape. She hadn't talked to Joseph in a long time, so she would savor whatever time she had with him.

Joseph blinked a few times, before a look of relief settled in his eyes.

"I'm glad you escaped HYDRA when Brock was with you, then." He nodded to himself. "Otherwise you would've had another Commander that wouldn't be as tolerable."

Yes, that was true.

Brock and Jack were the most tolerable of them. Any other HYDRA agent would have been on a power trip more dangerous than Brock's. They would have been used in all kinds of ways– she couldn't count how many times Brock wrote up members of STRIKE: Beta agents whenever they worked together. They always wanted to touch James– they always wanted to touch her.

If not for them, she was sure the worst of HYDRA would have caught up to them earlier.

Lucy pursed her lips.

But Brock had still hurt them.

She looked away from Joseph.

They turned further down the street.

"He's hurt you before, hasn't he?" Joseph suddenly asked.

Lucy blinked, glancing at him with a look of surprise. Slowly, hesitantly, she nodded. She couldn't remember if she'd told Joseph about Brock's deeply troubling violence. If she had, her recollection of it was vague.
