AMY

As I placed the last dirty dish into the dishwasher, I shut the door and turned back around to face Rachel as she talked and talked about how great Paul was and how everything in their relationship was amazing.

I did have to agree, she never seemed so happy, even when her and Paul were a thing in the past, nothing compared to the smile which was now etched across her ivory skin. She glowed with happiness.

As she rinsed some glasses under the tap, I passed her the cloth to dry them off with, still fixated on every word which spilled from her lipstick stained lips, trying to remain focussed on what she was telling me.

Breaking my focus and attention, promptly shutting Rachel up, Daniel barged in through the glass doors, almost knocking them off their hinges as he stormed in. Paul's red face followed suit as he whispered and grunted behind him.

"Ame, I need to tell you something." Daniel shouted with both hands in tight fists next to his side. He looked animalistic.

"No he doesn't." Paul commented and tried to swing Daniel back by pressing onto his shoulder. Daniel didn't budge, the force within him to strong to move him, too strong to move mountains.

"Dan, what's going on?" I softly spoke, trying to get to the bottom of Daniel's sudden aggressive outburst. Had he had one too many beers? No, surely not. Even when Daniel is hammered drunk, he still remains the happy life and soul of the party.

"This cunt won't tell you, so I will." Daniel shoved Paul into the wall, his back slamming against the sideboard and rattling some of my interior design trinkets.

"Daniel! What the fuck?" Rachel shouted and ran to Paul's aid as he grabbed his side with a wince.

I moved closer to Daniel as his face grew a deeper red but when his eyes moved onto me, they grew with deep sadness and despair.

"Dan?" I asked again, trying to calm down the raging bull in front of me.

"What's all the noise?" Michael came through the doors with Scotty as they looked across the room with a perplexed look on her faces.

"Are you going to tell her?" Daniel looked across to Paul who was now being sheltered by Rachel, her comforting arms crossing his body as his hand still pressed firmly against his back, the sideboard would definitely be leaving a mark.

I looked over to Rachel who looked bewildered to say the least. Her eyes filled with worry as the tension filled the room. My heart swirled around my body as time appeared to go in slow motion. All movements now staggered and blurry.

"Paul, tell me." I said slowly as I bit down onto my lip and eyes started to water. I couldn't see a foot in front of me as my vision became clouded.

"It's Jace." He said as he looked up from the side. Using his nickname burnt my skin as if he has branded a hot rod in coal and lay it upon my complexion. "He'll be out in August."

The glass which was in my grasp helter skeltered towards the titled floor, smashing into a million pieces as it collided with the harsh surface. The shards surrounded my ankles, some of them digging into my skin enough to cut and draw blood.

Daniel rushed to my side as I went weak. My knees collapsing in on me causing my body to fly backwards, descending downwards to accompany the glass. I could hear voices surrounding me as they became muffled. My eyes now only saw black.

"Right, now. Let's make mommy some breakfast." Steve said as he picked Amy up by her arm pits and placed her onto the kitchen counter, her small legs dangling over the side as her little white dolly shoes pressed firmed onto her feet. White frilly socks were raised up to her calves.
