AMY
"Good morning Miss Fox." Lisa Benson beamed through the FaceTime call.
Work had contacted a couple of days ago to run through my upcoming schedule. A schedule which I'd have to shoot down in flames due to my pregnancy bombshell which would implode their plans into smithereens.
I felt bad about the chaos and concern I'd be causing towards the agency which had only just assigned me to their books, but the growing life inside of me was too important to worry about work. I had to put what was most important first, and work was never going to be a priority.
Ever since I had moved out of my parents' home and started a life away with Rachel, I had dreamed of becoming this all powerful, all graceful, all elegant supermodel who would star in every runway, every magazine, and every fashion week imaginable. Ever since I had walked the Victoria Secret runway, I had felt as if I'd accomplished everything I have ever needed too, taking time to reflect upon my current situation and how I now viewed my career.
Although my want and aspirations to work had always been high, I now valued my new rekindled relationship with Daniel and our soon to be family, the most important thing to put my time and energy into. I had worked hard to overcome the past and to get the opportunities that I had done, but now it was time for a rest. Time to relax and enjoy becoming a parent.
"Good evening." I smiled as I noticed that the view outside Lisa's room was pitch black, evidently, considering the time difference between Australia and wherever she was in the world.
"I've got the complete rundown of the next six months for you; we will categorise these into importance throughout the timeframe and chat about times and dates for flights and what not. Have you got your notes ready?" She smiled as she pulled her reading glasses out of her bag, placing them onto her face and resting them upon the bridge of her nose.
"There's something I need to discuss before we start, Lisa." I notified her as she prized her eyes away from the mounds of paperwork which surrounded her, removing her glasses in a swift movement at the seriousness of my words. She nodded and floated her hand through the air to suggest that I carried on without muttering a word from her mouth. "Lisa, I know that I've only just started with you, and it's been the opportunity of a lifetime to work alongside yourself and your team, but I need to inform you of some news..."
"Amy, if you're thinking about quitting, please let me stop you there." She interrupted my words and held her palm up towards her laptop camera, pinching her forehead with her free hand as she closed her eyes for a split second.
"Look, Lisa," I interrupted this time, reaching further into my webcam so she could see the impression marked across my face, "I'm not quitting and I also appreciate the time and effort that has gone into planning and preparation."
"Do you?" She retaliated back in frustration, waving her hand over the paperwork which sat beside her. "Do you understand the time this has all taken to put together for you? The constant hours of communicating with other departments and directors." She groaned as she scowled over the monitor. My heart rose quickly, in rapid uneven beats, as she continued to complain over the lack of interest I had displayed at the start of the phone call. "So, what is it, Amy? Why can't you continue your work with us?"
"I'm pregnant." I forcefully said over the call, having enough of being spoken to like I was a child. Sick and tired of the way she used her brutal words and stern nature to lecture me as if I had done something wrong. "And before you continue, I do not appreciate being spoken to like a piece of shit."
Lisa looked dumbfounded across the camera as she knew that she'd over stepped the mark, realising that she should've listened to what I had to tell her before she rudely cut me off in my tracks, cutting me short of telling her the most amazing news I had ever received before in my life.
