AMY
Banging the end of the pen against my forehead, I stared down at the empty notepad in front of me as I contemplated writing my statement for court.
I thought that this would be a good moment to distract myself away from hiding my pregnancy; to channel my energy into something extremely important.
I was told by my solicitors that I would need to recall every important date which was going to be discussed during the trial, every moment from when we first met right up until the last time that I saw him. The time that I assaulted him.
I rummaged around my mind to clearly remember any key events which could possibly get him sent down for even longer, which wasn't hard considering the amounts of times we ended up in an altercation.
Daniel came up behind me and placed his arms around my shoulders, planting a soft kiss to my head as he rested himself into my neck.
"Would you like some coffee?" He asked as I nodded along.
"It needs to be decaf, remember." I reminded him as he removed the correct jar of coffee from the cupboard.
"Why are you drinking decaf all of a sudden?" Rachel asked, tying her hair up into a high pony before moving over to the fridge to pull out a bottle of chilled water. "You usually hate decaf."
"I'm trying to go caffeine free." I smiled over to her, my heart pounding slightly as I had to lie, again.
"So you aren't drinking alcohol and you're going caffeine free? What's the point in living?!" Rachel dramatically exclaimed as Michael entered the kitchen, quickly bending down to tie his shoelace as they were both dressed in their workout clothes.
"Going for another run?" I asked over to the pair, resting my head into the palm of my hands as Rachel started to get slightly flustered. "You two always seem to be running."
"I've got to maintain my figure, Ames." Rachel put on her best confident pose as Michael laughed along, eyeing her body up and down.
It was only until now that Daniel and I had started to realise significant tell-tale signs that they were 'having it off' behind our backs. Michael would constantly be staring at Rachel, whether it was at dinner or just sat around as a group, he would always be watching her intently.
Rachel would also start to blush at anything Michael had to say, putting on her best flirty giggle. I knew that giggle from anywhere, she always used it when she was trying to chat up a guy in a bar. It was so adversely obvious to Daniel and myself that they were having a secret fling, but we wouldn't dare ruin their vibes. Not at the moment, at least.
After Michael and Rachel left the kitchen, Daniel placed the coffee down in front of me and sat down at the kitchen table to help me write, picking up some torn pages from my notepad which had scribbles on.
"I know this is going to be difficult for you, reliving your past." Daniel said as he sipped on his coffee, moving the paper from his hand back down onto the table. "You need to think about yourself, though. You can't be stressed right now." Daniel suggested, making eyes down towards my stomach.
"I'm taking it easy, Dan. I promise." I smiled over to him, placing my hand onto his to give it a small squeeze.
"I spoke to the doctor this morning..." Daniel trailed off as his eyes lit up and smile multiplied on his face.
"And?" I asked and titled my head to the side, giggling at the new found expression Daniel has blossoming on his cheeks. He had been wearing this smile for three days now, making others question why he was so content.
