When I wake up I realize Dirk isn't on the futon anymore. I sit up and glance around the apartment. Where could he have gone? I stand up stretching and continue my search for Dirk. He's not in the bathroom, or his room, or my room. Maybe he's on the roof? I climb up the fire escape, but he's not on the roof either. I head back down to the apartment and grab my phone.

'Hey, where'd you go?' A few minutes later I get Dirk's reply.

'I just went out, I'll be home soon.'

'You went out? To where?'
'And why didn't you take me too.'

'It wasn't for you Dave, I'll be home soon. Bye.' I know there is no point in asking him again. He'll just ignore me. I lounge around board out of my mind, until Dirk finally comes back. I sit up and stare at him over the back of the futon.

"You said you had something planned for when I wake up, but you know what? You weren't here when I woke up."

"Don't be a baby, I wasn't gone that long. And I changed my mind anyway." Oh. He's probably back with Jake again and I was just a back up thing in a weird sort of way. "Don't look so dejected, I'm rescheduling my plan."

"Really?"

"Yup." I lean more over the back of the futon. Dirk doesn't look very sure of himself. I take that as a sign something isn't right.

"You ok?"

"Yeah."

"Where did you go?" Dirk sighs and walks up to the back of the futon. I lean my head to the side on my left arm as I look up at him. He pets my hair as he keeps his eyes away from mine.

"I guess I can't avoid that question anymore. I actually went to meet up with Jake."

"And your not together again?"

"No we're not, but we parted on better terms."

"You really love that island weirdo." Dirk lets out a sigh and nods. "If what happen was a mistake to you, I'm ok with you going back to Jake."

"No I don't think that and I don't want that. There's just a lot of moral issues here and obviously I'm not fully over Jake. Just give me some time Dave." Dirk comes around and sits next me on the futon. He's talking as he's walking and finishes as he sits down.

"I was just letting you know."

"Yeah, but it's like you have so little faith in me. I'm not going to break your heart."

"Well, I know that. Are you friends with Jake now." Dirk nods.

"Your ok with that, right?"

"Yeah, not like I can control your taste in friends."

"Jealous much."

"Not even a little. Now pet my hair and call me pretty." I stretch out laying on top of Dirk.

"Wow Dave." I ignore Dirk's complaints as I get comfortable. Finally Dirk starts to run his hand through my hair. "You're such a cat."

"A cat?"

"Yeah. Always demanding attention."

"Dogs always demand attention."

"Yeah but dogs are cute, and then cats are really sneaky and I always feel like your up to something."

"I think I'm supposed to be offended."

"Definitely."

"Good, because I'm not."

"Brat." I stretch out again and in my weakened position Dirk pushes me off his lap.

"Oof." I stare up at Dirk who has a smug expression. "Dirk!"
