When I wake up Dirk isn't next to me anymore, which is how it usually is. I roll over into his spot and it's still warm. Maybe he's still here. I rub my eyes and wander out of Dirk's room. "Dirk?" I call softly.

"Hmm?"

"What are you doing?"

"Looking for something to eat. I'm leaving soon."

"Oh, yeah you have a gig." Dirk shuts the fridge and leans back against the counter.

"Did you have a nice nap?"

"I guess so." I walk over to Dirk and hide my face in his shirt. His arms come up around me and he rests his chin on the top of my head.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing." I pull back a little bit to look up at Dirk. "I probably have some school work to get to. You know I only have a couple weeks left?"

"Yeah I know. They have a big graduation in... what state was it again?"

"Maryland. Do you think we could go?"

"Hell yeah we're going, and I'm going to be the most obnoxious person there when they call your name little bro." I roll my eyes at Dirk and he reaches up a hand to push my bangs aside. "I was supposed to cut your hair yesterday, I could do it right now if you want."

"It's not bothering me, but I know how bad it's bothering you. Go ahead trim my hair, and I will murder you in your sleep it you cut it too short." Dirk pulls out a chair from the kitchen table. I sit in it and Dirk throws a towel around my shoulders. He grabs a pair of scissors and starts to trim my hair. He's such a perfectionist that this always takes a little bit of time. When he's finally done I shake my head out, and repart my hair. "Are you done yet?"

"Yup. Go look in the mirror, I did a fantastic job."

"You better have." I check my hair out in the bathroom mirror while Dirk cleans up. It's not that bad. It's actually really good. Exactly what I wanted. Maybe a little shorter than I wanted, but it doesn't make me look bad. "Alright, you did a good job." Dirk smiles and sets a bottle of apple juice on the kitchen table. I take it and sit down. I'm getting hungry now that I'm more awake.

"I ordered pizza."

"Whoa you just read my mind."

"I thought you'd be getting hungry, you didn't eat much this morning."

"Aww you paid attention even though you were grouchy, you must love me." I teased Dirk and he smiled softly. The mood he was in finally seems to be snapping. It's about time too. There's only so much grouchy Dirk I can take. Especially now with our weird relationship going on.

"You shouldn't have had to hear that."

"What?" Dirk looks way slightly embarrassed.

"My fight with Jake. I should have gotten the key a while ago so he wouldn't have been able to open the door like that."

"Oh." How do I respond to this? I don't know how sensitive he is to this and I don't want to upset him again. "I think I understand what happen pretty well. Like why you got so mad at him. I know that it's hard being together because we can't tell anybody, but try to keep your chill. You just can't go around punching people in the face."

"It was only Jake."

"Yeah, and you're lucky he's still in love with you or else you'd get arrested for assault."

"He's not in love with me Dave. We wouldn't have been broken up if he was."

"Then why-"

"Because he doesn't want to be alone, and neither did I."
