Andrew stops walking at the set that is set up for stunts. There's a tall fake building several people will be jumping out of into a huge blue air bag. The building is only painted on the top half. The rest is just there covered in green screen material. There's a lot of stunt doubles walking around and I can't tell the difference from the lead and her stunt double.
"So what do you think?"
"Pretty impressive. There's going to be an explosion scene where everyone gets thrown from the building right?"
"Yeah. But to keep everyone safe we can only have one person jumping out at once. So this is going to take a while."
"Anything I can do?"
"Hmm, not really. This is going to be boring and take the rest of the day. I mean you should stay for at least some of it. It's just a bunch of reshooting and safety talks."
"I can stay for all of it." I take a seat back away from the set to stay out of the way. Andrew is right, it's a boring day, but it's still educational.
That's how most of my days are on set. I learn some and get some responsibilities some days. I usually don't eat breakfast or dinner on weekdays and I have trouble falling asleep. The most sleep I get is on the weekends, but the longer I stay the more friends I make. I hang out with them on the weekends, especially Terezi. It's nearing the end of the second month and I haven't talked to Dirk at all. I haven't talked to any of my friends either. I only use my phone for an alarm and I never answer any messages I get. I'm too busy.
I'm sitting up in bed on a Saturday around noon rubbing my eyes awake when I get a text message. The only reason I glance at my phone is because I'm expecting a text from Terezi. She said we should hang out this Saturday maybe at a bar. I'm learning a lot about her, and she's just out of college too. I learned she was also legally blind until a few years ago when she got a surgery. She's really funny and nice, and I'd like to keep hanging out with her. She's really interesting. I grab my phone and yup, it's her.
'Hey Dave, you awake yet?'
'Yup, just woke up. How long have you been up?'
'About an hour. You want to meet up later?'
'Definitely, when?'
'How about around three?'
'There's fine, when?'
'Same bar as last Saturday? Nobody from work is suppose to be there.'
'Sure. See you then.' I set my phone down on the night stand, and stand up to stretch. I love hanging out with Terezi. It feels like I can tell her anything. She's so easy to get along with. I wish I'd known her sooner. I go out into the living room and order room service. I flick through TV channels until there's finally a knock on the door. I hurry to open it and I'm happy to take in my tray and eat. I'm staving, and this taste like heaven to me. When I'm finished eating I set the tray outside of my door and pick up the script Andrew gave me.
It's for the ending scene, and besides what gets said I'm left to direct it. Andrew always writes himself notes along the margins of his scripts. So I've done the same. Any ideas I've had I write down. We're directing this on Monday, and maybe Tuesday if we have to. Andrew thinks we should be able to get it shot on Monday because it's the last scene we have to shoot and everyone should be pretty serious on it. Even the kids, that I've since made amends with. After working with them a few more times I was able to use more constructive criticism on them instead of threats. At the time a little threat seemed necessary, but I guess I got too wrapped up in directing to realize it was wrong. But like Andrew said the kids forgave me.
