Dirk doesn't take to long to get ready. He has his keys in his hand and is by the door a lot quicker than I thought he could get ready. Where I went with tight clothes, Dirk went with lose fitting ones. He's going to be more comfortable, but I'm going to be a tease. I cling to Dirk like glue on our way down the stairs. When ever I catch him looking at me I flutter my lashes. I get a snort from Dirk when he catches what I'm doing. "You're going to make this hell."
"Of course I am." When we make it to his car Dirk gives me a little kiss before opening my door. I slide in and he goes around to his side.
"Now I mean it Dave, no drinking."
"How many times are you going to tell me?"
"As many as it takes for it to be taken seriously."
"I do take it seriously."
"Good." Dirk drives us past a lot of venues on our way to his. We enter a darker part of the city and I see a warehouse up ahead.
"Are we going to a warehouse party?"
"Yeah." Dirk parks the car, but we're no where near the warehouse.
"Wait are we walking?"
"Yes, if the cops get called our car won't be seen."
"What the hell?"
"Money is money Dave." Dirk reaches across me to open the glove box he takes out his pocket knife and hands it to me. "Do you remember how to use it?"
"Uh, yeah. But Dirk I won't need it."
"You might, and you're not getting out of this car without it." I sigh and shove it into my pocket as I get up. Dirk comes around to my side of the car and his hand finds mine. "I wouldn't walk you into danger, I just don't like its location. The people aren't that bad though. The walk there and back to the car is the most dangerous."
"I trust you to keep me safe. Don't worry about it." Dirk nods and I notice he's on high alert. He probably didn't even want to bring me, but if he's been here before a lot, he might have just wanted to feel safer. Or maybe my presence gives him an edge he was starting to lose. What ever the case, I know his intentions are not to get me hurt. So this place should be safe enough that he trusts himself to be distracted with music and be able to keep an eye on me. I still don't understand why he would want to DJ here if it's so bad though. The money must be really good. That would explain why he has enough to pay for my college and everything else.
I really do feel bad for asking for so much. No matter how much he makes it always went toward me in some way. Either to rent, to buy me a car, to pay for my college, or to put food on our table. I could have been working and helping out, but I never really thought about it until recently. I will make sure I give him something in return for everything he's done for me. Dirk leads me into the warehouse where we run into somebody. "Hey Dirk, brought a friend I see."
"He's my brother, he won't be any trouble."
"Course he won't." The man walks away and I elbow Dirk.
"Who's that?"
"The one who organizes this."
"What his name?"
"Don't know." I look around and frown. There's a lot of people and beers flowing, but I notice tables set up randomly. Some have people playing what I think is poker. Some others seem to be selling stuff. It's really a variety of things. In the darker corners I suspect it's a lot of illegal stuff.
"Dirk what are you mixed up in?"
"Nothing. I only DJ. I get two hundred grand, unless some really dark shit is happening then I get up to four hundred, and I chose when I want to play."
