Chapter Fifty Three

"Yeah, you've got no idea."

TT: Let's move off of him as our topic.
TT: How have you been doing?
TT: I only talked to you a handful of times when you were younger. Dirk liked to keep you and I separate.

"I think he still would be if he felt like he had a choice in the matter. But I'm not planning on letting him shut you down again."

TT: And why is that?
TT: What is so interesting about me that you can't get from him?

"Well I think you'll talk to me more, and give me a better insight to him than he ever will. Plus I find you a little more interesting right now."

TT: So why is he so busy?

"I thought we were getting off that topic." I joke, but Hal doesn't seem amused. "He's busy working so we can move to Hollywood and I can become a director."

TT: You're relying on him for money?

"I kind of have to right now. I was hit by a car not to long ago and my leg is broken and some other stuff. But that's not relevant."

TT: How is that not relevant?

"Because I'm tired of talking about it."

TT: Fair enough.
TT: What would you like to talk about then?

"Uh... well, it's up to you."

TT: Must I do everything?

"Yup."

TT: Well then I guess we're going to have to talk about Dirk.
TT: I can tell that's all you want to do right now.

"Well I mean we don't have to."

TT: No let's get it over with now.
TT: Ask me all you're Dirk related questions.

I spend the next two hours getting an inside look into Dirk's head. But once I hear Dirk at the door I say good bye to Hal and slip off the shades. Dirk comes in with a smile, but after looking at me it fades. He can tell I'm mad. "What's wrong? What did he do?"

"He didn't do anything."

"I did something?"

"You shut him down when I was sixteen and haven't turned him on since. Then you make a replacement Hal-"

"Ok listen, Hal has advanced too far to be allowed to continue. When I first created him there were no restrictions and he developed way too fast. He's too... human. So yes, I shut him down and started over. Hal2 had restricted internet access and was programmed more to serve man than to grow and develop. You've spoken to Hal2 in the past, and yes I let you think it was the original one."

"Then why did you let me speak to the first one now?"

"Because I know you're motivation for talking to Hal is to talk to a version of me. Out of the two I've created the first one is no longer in sync with my mindset. So any information you obtain from him about me is not really valid. Also, Hal2 wasn't made to entertain and you wouldn't get much of a conversation from him."

"Ok so let me try to dumb this down a little bit. Hal2 isn't as smart as the first Hal, but knows you better?"

"Yes."

"And you're letting me talk to the first Hal because he can't get into anything, and he won't be able to give me insights into your mind?"

"Yes."

"When you say he's developed too far what do you mean exactly?"

"He's dangerous. His hacking abilities out rank mine now. If he wanted to, he could get us into some serious trouble. I'll allow him to be on if you want to talk to him that bad, but the restrictions are never coming off." I let what Dirk said sink in. Maybe I really shouldn't be talking to him, but at the same time if he can't do anything there's no reason not too.
