So this chapter is a couple hundred words longer than usual, but don't be fooled. To me this is a very boring, poorly written chapter. The next few chapters well pick up I promise.
I'm so surprised by the bluntness of her question I don't know how to respond. Of course I've been bullied about my eyes. Who has red eyes and doesn't get bullied? God if I didn't have Dirk back then I don't know what I would have done.
"Dave?"
"Yeah, I was. Why does it matter right now?"
"Because you won't show your gorgeous eyes now. Look Dave your an adult and if anyone says anything you can just knock them out."
"Terezi no."
"What do you mean no?"
"You can't just knock someone out because they hurt you're feelings."
"Fine, but you can ignore them better now that your older."
"So? I don't want to deal with people staring at me Terezi."
"Well think of it as practice."
"Huh?"
"Your going to be the great director Dave Strider, everyone is going to be starring at you." I never thought of that before. I still don't want to take my shades off, but I feel like Terezi won't drop this until I take them off.
"Ok, I'll take them off." I head back to shore and set my sunglasses on my shoes. Then I head back into the water keeping my eyes down.
"You know you're whole demeanor changes when you take off your shades."
"What do you mean?"
"You don't seem as confident. You had you're head down the whole walk back." Terezi floats toward me and when she gets to me she puts her hands on my shoulders. "I'm going to just chill here cause your nice and solid and I don't have to worry about the water taking me away." Terezi angles herself up enough that I have to look up at her. I put my hands on her waist to balance her and she smiles.
"My shades are kind of like a security blanket. A facade to hide behind. The typical cool kid wearing shades facade."
"Your cool without them. Anybody that would take the time to get to know you would realize that. You shouldn't ever have had to feel like you should hide." Dirk said something similar to me when I was younger.
"I've actually heard that before, and I know. I'm not a little kid."
"Then what's stopping you from believing it?"
"I don't know." I glance over her shoulder to see the shore. I don't want to get too far out, so I ride a few waves a little closer. "You know you're one to talk about not hiding your eye color. You've got red eyes too."
"I can't use the clear ones."
"Why?"
"If they move in my eye it's too bright. The brown ones make it darker like I need. If anything, I should be wearing shades."
"Sorry."
"Don't be, I understand." Terezi plays with the hair in the back of my head for a few minutes before speaking again. "Hey Dave?"
"Yeah?"
"Did you think about moving in with me?"
"Jeeze, again take me to dinner first." Terezi rolls her eyes and slides her hands into my hair. She tugs lightly on the ends and I scowl at her.
"I'm serious."
"So am I."
"So if I take you to dinner you'll move in with me?"
