Clarke Augustan

I changed into black skinny jeans with a white v neck t-shirt and a black leather jacket to shield myself from the cold weather. I ran downstairs and decided to pick lunch for Mike as he said he was coming home around by six in the evening which was pretty early. And as I was about to pull out of my driveway, I received a call from Hedge,

"Cookie. Kim's Phone GPS is being intercepted. Someone must be tracking her." His words were very fast but fast enough for me to understand even with all the noise of the keyboard being hit continuously.

"Oh God. Okay location?" I asked him as I turned on my car GPS.

"I'm trying to block the signals they are receiving but damn Clarke, their tracker is strong." He muttered as he typed some more. "Clarke, this can't be happening. I can't block this, their tracker is way too strong. And you know what that means right? Nobody could mess with Hedge's inventions, but here we are." I heard him cuss fast as he typed some more. After few minutes, his voice still held disappointment, but held more firmness showing that he was giving his best despite someone else's version beating his.

That's Hedge, people.

"Clarke, 284-286 Uxbridge road. Do you copy that?" I rolled my eyes slightly with a small smile on my face.

"Copy." I kept my phone back in my pocket after connecting them to earphones and plugging in only one of the earplugs into my left ear. I quickly took a reverse and followed my GPS. Hedge kept the conversation, updating me with minor details and complaining about our opponent's software. I looked at the address and realised they sounded way too familiar.

"Clarke, who are we even dealing with?" I heard his voice hardly audible from the earbuds. And for the first time I could hear the fear in his voice. I let out a breath that I hadn't realised I was holding and replied,

"I wish I knew, Hedge. I wish I knew." I crossed five blocks and somehow the familiar route finally hit me.

"Hedge?" I asked softly.

"Hmm?" I could still her the sound of his fingers hitting the keyboard hard and fast.

"Do you realise that you gave me the address for Nando's?" I asked him. And then suddenly everything went silent.

"Uhhh. Um. I just realised but I guess that's where Kim is right now." I let out a sigh of relief at his answer and pressed harder on the accelerator since I didn't have to follow the GPS anymore. I reached Nando's within fifteen minutes and parked my car as soon as I found an empty parking spot. I entered Nando's without a second thought and to my luck the bell rang as soon as I entered. I mentally cursed myself when I found familiar pair of eyes look at me. Not only Kim, but also Aaron, Elsa and Jaiden.

Were they on a double date? Sue me.

Elsa's eyes instantly brightened as they met mine. "Hiya, Clarke. What brings you here?" But it wasn't Elsa who asked me that question, it was Kim.

"Did she honestly ask you that question? Why do people go to Nando's, girl? To learn how to pole dance?" Hedge snapped on the other side of the phone making me mentally laugh at the situation. I wanted to ask Hedge to calm down, but I knew it brings a person no good when they ask a person who is already so irritated to calm down. I ignored Hedge and let him stay on the call in case I needed a back up.

"Hi guys, this is mildly surprising." I replied with a warm smile even though I wasn't least bit surprised. I let Kim's weird question pass but it made me think if Kim was behind any of the tracking, almost like luring me into a trap, but I quickly pushed it away because Kim could be mean and self obsessive but not evil. She is just another kid who thinks she's going to live in high school for the rest of her life.
