Clarke Augustan

"Hey Clarke, you should come to my party tomorrow evening." Kim invited me in that sickening sweet voice of hers. I smiled in return and just nodded, already deciding that I wasn't going to go.

"You could be my date." Dan jumped into the conversation as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at me. I laughed and pushed him away before returning back to my food.

Finally the guy who sat next to me during Psychology seemed to be in a better mood. "I'm Xavier Reynolds."

"Clarke Augustan." I replied back politely with a small smile. I couldn't help but wonder what he kept sketching in his book since yesterday and the way he is so secretive about it, made me even more curious. Half way during the period, he gave up on trying to hide his sketch and concentrated completely on his sketch. It was a pen sketch of a girl's eyes and oh my, they looked so familiar. I held in a gasp as my eyes were glued to his book. All my life those pair of eyes looked nothing but normal, but now, they looked so beautiful in his perspective.

"The sketch is brilliant." He looked startled at my compliment and quickly looked down in embarrassment as he continued sketching. "I mean I know I'm not much of an art work to draw and sketch. But it's good, like really good." I finished my compliment with a small smile. He just frowned at me and shook his head slightly.

"Are you kidding me? You've got beautiful eyes." He muttered looking up straight into my eyes. I could feel my face turn red as I averted my eyes.

No wonder he kept looking at me yesterday.

"Well your artwork is the only thing making me feel like I'm more than ordinary." I replied honestly.

"I'm glad."

"Thank you." I whispered softly and smiled shyly at him. He just chuckled and looked away. I was about to leave when the period got over but a hand clasped over my wrist holding me in spot. I looked back and gave Xavier a questioning look. He hesitantly handed me the complete sketch and looked at me with a small shy smile. I was in awe as I stared at it.

"I know you don't appreciate yourself much, but that's how beautiful your eyes are." He whispered.

"It's scary good how you just needed two days but I'm honoured." I muttered back in a daze. He laughed while he scratched the back of his neck awkwardly as he turned red.

"Okay, I'll see you in art class." He replied and left.

"Wait, you are in arts too? Why do I sound surprised. It's just I haven't seen you around."

"I sit way in the back." He replied and walked away leaving me to join the rest of my group.

"What did he want?" Aaron gruffly asked me when I reached them.

"Nothing." We started walking towards our lockers, with me remaining silent the whole time. I stopped in my track as I saw photos stuck on Aaron's and my locker. I looked confused as I picked up the picture stuck on mine.

It was Aaron and me in the rain during football practice. My eyes were closed as I let the rain drench me and Aaron was looking at me with a small smile of admiration on his face. It was caught in our moment. It was a really nice picture but it told a prologue to a story that never happened.

I looked at Aaron beside me who was holding the photo that was stuck to his locker. I leaned in closer with an excuse to look at the picture more closely but to also catch the familiarity of closure we had.
