'You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have a say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers."- Augustus Waters/ John Green

A loud noise startled my deep sleep which immediately pushed me into panic mode trying to identify the potential danger around me. My groggy eyes were still adjusting themselves to their sudden bright surrounding when my hands, being the better latter part of my reflex system, went straight to my revolver under my pillow. My eyes first flew towards the book stand which had fallen on the floor with all the books scattered around it and then my attention was completely on the disrupter with my gun aiming towards the direction of the noise.
I groaned as I realized I was pointing the gun at my neighbour's cat, Lucky, who was now sitting on my window sill, flaunting its thick shiny black fur as it growled at me. The name, Lucky, was quite contradicting to its nature cause honestly, this cat was anything but lucky.
"I'm going to shoot you one of these days, I swear!" I grumbled out of spite towards the cat which had woken me up unnecessarily from my sleep for extra unnecessary work. The cat glared back and hissed at me, returning the mutual hatred. It further jumped on my study table near my window, pushing the little cactus pot onto the floor on its way.
"Come here you, little cunt!" I snapped and cocked my gun. Mike thought it was a great idea to barge into my room at that exact same time, without knocking may I add, catching me at a very weird and confusing point in life. Mike was my older brother (Michael Augustan), he was more like my parent than my actual parents. He was my legal guardian.
"What's that noise-" He stopped his question, wide-eyed, as he saw me pointing my gun at the cat. He quickly rushed towards Lucky and took that unlucky cat into his arms.
"What is wrong with you?" He snapped at me. I shrugged and rolled my eyes not bothering to explain myself. He wouldn't understand me either way. "And stop pointing the gun this side." He grumbled as he bent down to pick up the fallen cactus pot. I smiled cheekily and put the gun away.
"Aren't you supposed to be at camp by now?" I asked him as I got up.
"I was just about to leave when I heard some noise. I-"
"Aren't you in a hurry? I, anyway, have some time before I start today."
"Oh yeah! You start your new assignment today. You feeling alright?"
"Hmm, just dandy. And tell Mr.Rodney to keep his cat inside his house if he wants it to stay alive." I replied as I picked up my water bottle to drink. My brother just left the room with a disappointed sigh.
I let out a chuckle and walked towards the washroom to freshen up. After working out for a solid hour, I made myself some poor breakfast and rushed towards this new high school for the first day of my new assignment.
Babysitting.
It took me twenty minutes to reach the school with the usual traffic and I silently prayed I wasn't too late. The school looked magnificent from outside because of the roman cultural influence in its architecture. With its royal white exterior and design, you could easily identify it as an old school with rich history.
And really expensive.
I quickly stepped out of my car after parking, breathing in London's sweet cold air. You could say it was just your 'typical' London weather and not many people like this grey weather because it makes them feel 'gloomy'. But I sighed contently instead because this weather made me happy and excited. I love the sudden chills that travelled down my back. I embraced this cold sweater weather.
