〰⋅〰⋅〰Kori could hardly mask the grin on her face. It was ear to ear, nothing but happiness filling her chest. She already loved today. It was ten in the morning and she already missed the memories she'd make today. And she hadn't even made them yet. All that really mattered was that there was no better day to surf.
Kori laughed as JJ stuck his head out the open door, blonde tips almost grazing the sand as they drove across it. He was such an idiot. Her smile only grew as Logan put his arm around her, catching hold of her gaze. He was just as happy as her. Despite everything that seemed to be in motion, they were still able to find peace. It was almost as if the chaos had been put on pause.
For now.
"Yes." The blonde exclaimed, stepping out onto the sand. Her eyes had found the monstrous swell hundreds of yards out, head beginning to shake. "Yes!"
Logan let out a cheer to follow. He couldn't wait to get out on the water. It'd been way too long and he was dying to catch a wave. To ride it and feel the wind against his stance. It would make everything that much better in their ever changing lives.
"Don't you just immediately feel like life is better at the beach?" Kie asked.
Kori met her gaze, head tilting at her. "One hundred percent."
As soon as they had set up camp, JJ clapped his hands together. "Okay! Let's get these boards!"
Before he could so much as unlatch one, though, a revving noise cut through the reticence. All heads turned in the direction of the sound, eyes zeroing in on the incoming kooks. Topper was at the forefront of the cavalry, charcoal Jeep speeding towards them.
"Oh God." Kori groaned, head craning back.
"Don't stop." JJ echoed.
Logan just shook his head. "I'm gonna punch him again if he stops."
"No. Loge–" Sarah gave up, sigh subsequently sounding.
No one could believe it when they stopped twenty-five feet from them. Kiara was the first to complain, though, turning back to their group. "Oh, you're joking. Of course they stop here. Why wouldn't they when there's an entire beach?"
"We were here first." Sarah pointed out.
John B simply shook his head.
"Shit."
Kori glanced at Logan, eyes narrowing at his dark gaze. She followed his line of sight, only to sigh as she locked onto the image of Rafe. He wasn't looking at them, but he was less than fifty feet away with Sofia and the rest of the kooks.
"Great. Our big brother's here." Sarah quipped, having heard Logan's comment.
"You don't have to talk to him." Kori murmured, voice remarkably hushed as it came out. "I'm serious, Loge."
His gaze didn't falter. Not when Rafe lifted his head, finally turning in their direction. Not even when he locked onto his little brother's dark eyes. "I know."
As the pogues turned to keep prepping their boards, a voice cut through the air. A voice that belonged to someone that was like a rock in their shoe. "Hey! John B!" Topper called out.
"You've gotta be kidding me." Logan uttered.
"Hey, sunshine's coming." JJ announced, head gesturing towards the prick. "What do you think he wants?"
"I got it." John B voiced, pausing to reassure them. "I'm gonna be cool. Don't worry."
Kori shook her head, completely turning away from the pre-brawl. "When has he ever been cool? Like, ever?"
