George POV.

I groaned in annoyance while throwing a shirt down on the bed after having stared at it for five minutes. It was surprisingly difficult to decide what I should pack for while I was visiting my parents and sister. After not having seen them for who knows how many years, I just wasn’t sure how I should go, or act.

Back when I last saw my sister I was surprisingly timid, but when I last saw my parents I had grown slightly more comfortable, mainly because I was training to be a bartender and it was a very social job. Now though, I was jobless, probably going to lose my home and all of my possessions soon, and I was dating a movie star.

“Stop being so dramatic, it isn’t that big of a deal.” Wilbur chuckled from where he was watching me in the corner of my room.
“But it is Wilbur.” I responded. “I don’t want my first time seeing my parents and sister in years being me looking homeless, or looking like I feel like I’m too good for them.”

“Your family surely wouldn’t think that.” Wilbur reassured. “If they did, then they wouldn’t really be your family, since family supports each other.”
“But now I am a lot different.” I rambled. “They don’t know that I’m gay, and that I am dating a movie star of all people!”

For a moment Wilbur just sat there before chuckling. “And this is all an issue because you can’t choose a shirt?” He asked, but I didn’t give him a response. Instead I just looked back down at the shirt now laying on the bed as I tried to decide whether to pack it or not.

“Maybe I should just pack multiple shirts.” I muttered to myself. “After all, Clay and I are staying there for a few nights. It’ll be fine if I have more shirts that I don’t wear, right?”
“Yeah of course.” Wilbur nodded. “Grab as much as you can fit in your suitcase. If you don’t wear it then who cares?”

“That’s the first helpful thing you’ve said all day.” I said, glaring lightly in his direction. He’d been sitting here for the last hour, saying that he’d help me pack since he’d been on many trips over the years and knew what to take. But all that he had been doing was sitting in the corner and laughing at me when I was confused or indecisive about something.

“So how do you think it’s going to go?” The brunette questioned, ignoring the comment I had just made. “Do you think Clay and your family will get along? Or do you think they’ll hate you and forbid you from marrying him.”

“What?” I responded. “‘Forbid me from marrying him’? What is this, the middle ages? Firstly they have nothing to do with me getting married, and secondly, what if I don’t want to marry Clay?”
“Still nice to know that you have their blessing if you ever do decide to marry him.”

I ignored his comment as I refolded the shirt that I’d thrown on the bed before putting it in my suitcase, then I began pulling other shirts out of my drawers and putting them in the suitcase before moving on to begin putting pants and shorts in. “So, why exactly are you going to visit your family after all this time again?” Wilbur asked.

“Clay got a letter from his ex, Monica. She wants him to meet her, or their, kid, or whatever. Clay doesn’t want to, at least for now. So he asked if we could go and visit my family to put it off for a few minutes.” I explained.
“Makes sense.” He nodded. “She does seem crazy. I wouldn’t want to have a kid with her.”

As I folded up a pair of shorts I gave a hum of agreement, since  she did appear completely and utterly insane. It made me wonder how the internet could idolise her, when she was so clearly a bad person. Or perhaps it was just me who had seen Clay’s side of things, to some stranger living in some other country, she may appear to have the more reasonable argument.

“And you will come and check on  my house every day or so?” I asked my friend, taking a moment to glance over my shoulder at him. “In case somebody tries to break in while I’m away.”
“Of course I will, don’t worry.” The brunette reassured me. “Nothing bad will happen, nobody will break into your house, just go enjoy yourself with your family.”

“I will try to.” I nodded. “But it’s going to be the first time I have been around my parents and my sister all at once, since she left for University. And both me and Sarah have changed so much since we’ve last been around our parents. I mean, I’ve got a boyfriend and several thousand followers online. She's married, started a family, and co-owns a business with her best friend.”

“Wow, she sounds quite successful.” He noted. “The two of you seem to be quite the… what’s the ‘siblings’ equivalent of a power couple? Cause that’s what you two are.” A smile was visible on his face as he said that, and I grinned bashfully before shrugging him off.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and I took a moment to pull it out and look at it, it was a message from Clay, saying that he was parked outside. I responded saying that I’d be out in a minute before repocketing my phone. As I finished packing my clothes I began talking to Wilbur once again.

“Look, there is only one thing here that is really valuable. And I want you to promise that no matter what, even if there was some sort of arson attack or whatever, that it stays safe.” I spoke in a low voice, making it clear that I would be absolutely pissed if it got taken or damaged or anything.

“What is it?” The brunette asked, moving to stand beside me. “What is the most valuable thing that you have?” As he spoke I moved to reach under the bed, where I kept the overly large velvet box that had been gifted to me by Clay on our first date. I set it on the bed before answering with a simple ‘this’ as I opened the box.

Inside was my emerald necklace, which I hadn’t touched since Clay had given it to me. Maybe I had tried it on once or twice and admired myself in the mirror, but that was the full extent of it, mainly because I was terrified it would be stolen if I took it anywhere outside of the house. I watched as Wilbur’s eyes widened with awe as he looked at it.

“That’s the necklace that Clay gave to you, right?” He asked, turning to glance over at me. “The one from the auction that was worth several million pounds?”
“Yeah.” I nodded. “And if anything happens to it while I am gone, then I will kill you, do you understand?”

Wilbur nodded, and despite my threat I knew that nothing would happen to it under the brunette’s watch. “Anyway…” I continued. “You have a copy of my house keys, so I just need to grab my toothbrush, toothpaste, and my phone charger, then I’ll be good to go.” Wilbur just gave a brief nod at what I said before closing and rehiding the necklace under the bed.

“I’ll see you next week then George.” He said to me as we both went to leave.
