Clay POV.I triple checked my phone before I dared to approach the house, just to make sure that I had the right address. Not only would it be embarrassing if I was wrong, but since I was a famous actor it would be really disappointing for someone to have me turn up on their front steps only for them to find out that I wasn’t there for them before I turn and leave.
Thankfully enough after my third check of the address that I’d been sent I was confident that I was correct. Nobody was around as I stepped out of the car, but since it was 9am on a cold Winter morning a lot of people were probably staying inside as long as possible.
I walked up the driveway and knocked on the door, a hint of anxiety running through me at the thought that I hadn’t actually gone to the right house and some random stranger would open the door for me. But that didn’t happen. In fact, nobody answered the door. But that just made my worries multiply.
After knocking and waiting several more times but still not receiving an answer I pulled my phone out and decided to call George. It rang a couple of times before the brunette answered, greeting me with a tired sounding ‘hello?’
“Hey George.” I responded. “Look… I’m at your house and…”I got cut off as George suddenly asked, “You’re at my house?”
“Yeah. I just got here. It’s five minutes early, but I was wondering if you would let me in. Or if you aren’t ready I could drive to the nearest cafe and get us some drinks before coming back.” I couldn’t help but notice the sound of rustling on the other end of the line as I spoke.George didn’t say anything but from through the door I heard rapid footsteps before the sound of it unlocking. Less than a second after that it was flung open and George was standing there, looking at me sheepishly while clutching his flip phone in his hand. “Hey,” I greeted, an awkward expression on my face, and he responded with an apologetic sounding chuckle.
“Hi Clay,” he responded. “I’m so sorry, I forgot to set my alarm and slept in.” As the brunette spoke he stood to the side and opened his arms. “You can come in if you want.”
“Thank you.” I smiled while stepping into the narrow hallway.“I’ll be back in a minute. You don’t mind waiting while I have a quick shower do you?” As George asked the question he slunk past me.
“Of course not. Go do whatever you need to do, I’m fine with waiting.” I answered. A relieved look appeared on his face and he thanked me before hurrying off.A chuckle fell from my lips as I watched him duck into one of the doors down the end of the corridor. After a moment of being alone I decided to have a bit of a look around George house, although mainly the living room and the kitchen, seeing as I didn’t want to go through anything private in his bedroom or whatever.
From where I was standing there were two small archways, one on either side of me. The one to my left led to a living room, and the one to my right was a kitchen/dining room. It was relatively small, however George had managed to make the most of the small space that he had.
I was feeling kind of thirsty so I began looking through the cupboards for a glass so I could have some water. There wasn’t much of any cutlery inside, there were five plates and five cups, but six of everything else. I figured that over the time that the brunette has lived here he must have evidently broken stuff because the table in the middle of the room was able to sit six.
Eventually I found the glasses and filled one of them up with water from the tap, taking a small sip to test the water. My hotel room didn’t have a sink, instead all of the water was filtered before you were able to get it from a water dispenser in the corner of the room, which also cooled it and served ice.
The water tasted fine and so I sipped on it as I crossed through the hallway and over to the living room which shocked me slightly. I mean, George had told me that he didn’t own a TV, but it was still somewhat of a shock to actually see.
Curiously I looked around the room. There was a comfortable couch and two armchairs surrounding a wooden coffee table. Shelves in the corner of the room with items ranging from books, to family photos, to a radio. A small cupboard with a wooden door had cleaning supplies on the lower shelves, and a range of board games higher up.
I couldn’t help but think about how nice this house was. With no TV, and a phone that didn’t have social media notifications telling you about gossip from the outside world it felt peaceful. I honestly felt like it would be nice to stay here for a few days, not having to worry about what was going on on the news or on Twitter.
As the minutes continued to pass I found myself looking over the photos in different coloured frames on the shelves, and hanging on the walls. They were of George, some of them being him posing with friends or family, others sudden snapshots, all of which showed me small snippets of George’s life.
Footsteps padded through the carpeted hallway behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see George walking into the room with a sheepish look on his face as he attempted to dry his hair with a pale blue towel. “Hi again,” he said while looking at me. “I’m sorry that I left you standing outside earlier, and that I had to shower.”
“Don’t worry, it’s fine.” I reassured him. “I was just checking out your living room, it’s nice by the way. And I got myself a glass of water.” As I said the last part of my sentence I lifted the glass in my hand slightly.
“You could have grabbed juice or coke from the fridge. It didn’t have to be water.”I smiled at the offer but shook my head. “I’m fine with water, but anyway I wanted to talk to you about our dinner tomorrow night.”
“Oh sure, what did you want to talk about?” He questioned.“Well, there are quite a few things that I need to tell you about…” I began as the two of us sat down at the couch.
