CHAPTER 15

Winter is finally awake. Her habit of staying still before getting up allows her to gather her thoughts and soul before fully waking up every morning.

"she's still sleeping. I don't wanna wake her up. I think she needs rest. Have you seen her eyebags? That's terrible. I'll take care of her."

Winter can hear Yeji. seems like she's calling someone that's most probably Karina.

"I'll take her to the bus stop so she can go home faster." Yeji paused. "yeah, that's okay. I might have to speed up my ride."

"you don't need to." Winter sits up, kind of scaring Yeji. "you'll be late." She looks at her.

"oh god, I thought you're still sleeping." Yeji got her hand on her chest. "she's awake. I'll see you later." She then ended her call.

"I can walk to the bus stop. You can go straight to work. Don't mind me." Winter stands up, walking towards her hanged clothes.

"don't mind you? How can I leave you alone? I brought you here. I should be responsible for you." Yeji approaches her. "did you have a good sleep?"

"I did. Thank for asking." Winter smiles. "I'm gonna clean up a bit."

Winter comes out of the bathroom after a brief clean up. Yeji greets her again with a smile.

"are you ready?" Yeji stands up. "I'm not late yet."

"I really don't wanna bother you." Winter walks closer. "your work matters more."

"don't start." Yeji sighs. "I'm happy to be with you. I care about you, Winter. Don't worry about a thing."

"okay. let's just go. I don't want you to be late to work."

Winter steps into the apartment. Last night, she's too caught up on Yeji, until she forgot to check her phone. It dies anyway.

Winter then opens the door to her unit. Just after she steps in and closing the door, she sees her mother with her worried face.

"where were you?! I was worried about you, Winter. Don't ever do that again! I thought you got kidnapped." The mother hugs Winter tightly.

"can I go to work now?" the father looks at them frustratingly. "I was praying that you'd never come back. I thought I can get rid of a heavy weight of this family."

"shut your mouth if you don't have anything nice to say." The mother looked at the man.

"I was staying at Yeji's place." Winter said to the mother.

"you should tell me beforehand, okay? at least I know where you are." The mother said as she guides Winter to the kitchen.

"just let her stay with her girlfriend. At least we don't need to spend money on useless things." The father scoffed. "I bet she pays you to be with her. good luck living with a sugar mommy." He mocks Winter as he walks out of the unit.

"you sick f-"

"Winter..." the mother sees her eyes waters. "go prepare for your class. I'll make you something to eat."

"I'm not hungry."

Winter sits on her desk, busy working on her assignments. So far, she can handle things pretty well. She's not alone as well. She's in a call with Yeji at the moment. She put it on speaker so she can work too.

"you keep yawning. That's like the fifth times." Yeji giggles. "can you just sleep?"

"I can't. I have a lot to work on." Winter sighs.

"damn. I already miss your hug. I wish you were here, sleeping with me again."

"yeah." Honestly, Winter feels the same. "I do too, actually."

"you can live with me."

Winter stops fiddling with her keyboard, stares at her phone, the back to work again.

"I don't think I can leave my mom alone." Winter replied.

"she can be with your dad."

"that's not a good thing."

There's silence after that. Both of them don't know what else to say.

"I'm gonna finish all these. You can sleep. I'll stay in the call" Winter decided to end their conversation.

"okay. goodnight, Winnie."

It's still funny to Winter every time she calls her that. She stifles a laugh because of that.

Karina: are you still awake?

Karina: please

Karina: I don't know who else to call

Karina: Winter

Winter takes her phone, immediately opens her spammed texts.

Winter: are you okay?

Karina: I think someone is following me

Karina: I think he's outside my unit

Karina: please

Karina: I'm scared
