CHAPTER 63

After a long ride to the police station, Karina arrived and goes straight inside. Seeing the station is pretty busy, she approaches one of the officers there.

"excuse me. where can I find Chief Bang?" Karina asked.

"in his office. You go straight there and go left. His office is on the right."

Karina thanked the officer and walks according to the direction. When she find the office, she knocks a few times before the chief lets her in.

"Karina?" he pointed at her.

"yes." she walks closer. Looks like he's been working hard seeing how cluttered and messy his office is.

"have a seat. Tell me what happened." He noticed Karina's uneasy demeanour. "you have to relax. we will help you."

"so, actually, someone has been following her. I insisted that she should just stay home but she's too stubborn. I started to feel less worried when we both thought that they won't do anything. Winter said that she'll be okay and she doesn't want me to get involved."

"is there any reason for her or you to not report this sooner? When did it start?" the chief starts typing on his computer.

"she said as long as they didn't do anything, she won't report. I already warned her but she'd still do nothing about it." Karina replied. "I think it started three weeks ago? Roughly." She added.

"so when she came here, she's being followed." Chris rubs his chin.

"I don't know. She didn't say anything."

"look, we actually just found out that Wendy stole some money from the boss. I supposed it was for her mom's hospital bills. Chances are, they're targeting Winter to either pay for it or work for them... to make up for what Wendy did." Chris looks at Karina then back to his computer.

"so, what should we do? Will she be in danger?" Karina leans forward.

"well, is she plays along, nothing will happen to her."

There's no way Winter will play along. Karina knows how hard it is to persuade Winter, especially when she's working with some bad stranger.

"she won't. we have to find her."

"we need time to do that, young girl. I'm sure they're going far from here." Chris informed. "while we take care of that, why don't you go home first and I'll update you."

"you can't just do that. She has no one else to call. She can't even access her phone now." Karina somehow felt offended.

"do you have any other plan?" Chris looks at her. Karina lowers her head. "exactly. Once we found out where their base is, we most likely will find Winter there."

Winter has no idea where she's going. Her head is covered, her hands are tied with a zip tie, and her mouth is shut with duct tape.

"she's calm. Unlike her sister." A guy beside her said. "hope their brain is the same."

"Boss said that she has the same intelligence as her. probably better. She can be a good asset." Sounds like someone in the front is saying something.

"smart enough to stole as well?" the guy nudged Winter's arm. "I know we shouldn't trust her again in the first place. I don't know why Boss took her back. She and her damned friends deserve it."

Winter swings her hands to the side, wanting to hit the guy.

"whoa... chill out, bud." He grabs Winter's wrists. "you wanna defend a robber now?"

Winter's muffled complaints makes the other two laugh. She hates it. She misses Karina so bad.

"we're almost there. You better behave."

Winter let out a deep breath. Even though she's scared, she needs to be aware of her surroundings. She can feel the car slowing down. It feels like the road is not that smooth. After some time, the car stops.

Winter gets dragged outside forcefully by the two men earlier. She follows them, still not able to see anything. It's kinda chilly inside this building, the flooring sounds like metal as well. She can hear metal doors opening and closing. Not long after that, it gets warmer. Seems like she's going to a different area of the facility.

"ta-da!" one of the men takes off the bag on Winter's head.

Finally, Winter can see around her. it looks like a huge warehouse with trucks and a wide section of area with computers. That's where Winter is right now. She's sitting in front of a computer.

"you like this, right? Coding, programming, like your sister." The guy nudged her. "I'm gonna get the boss. You stay here with him."

Winter looks at the screen. Sure, she's familiar with the program and knows how to use it.

"hello, Winter." A voice of a woman made Winter turns her head towards the source. "I'm Somi." She smiles at the younger girl.

Winter just looks at her confusedly. After all this time she thought that 'The Boss' is a scary old man with tattoos and a buff body or something similar to that. Instead, an elegant woman shows up in front of her. she came with a man beside her as well.

"take off her tape, boys. I wanna hear her talk." Somi commanded and the guy rips off the tape from her mouth.

"what do you want?" Winter asked.

"I want you to give back what your sister took from me. Since she's not here anymore, you're the one that have to pay for it." Somi explained. "I'm gonna give you two options. You work with us until the loss returns, or you give me the money within twenty four hours." She walks closer. "if not... Hoshi..."

"yes, ma'am." The guy beside Somi steps forward with a retractable knife on his hand. He places the tip on Winter's neck with a smile on his face. "you die... we will take everything from you."

"I have nothing to give you." Winter stays calm.

"wanna work with us? It'll make so much more than your little job at campus." Somi smiles a little.

"oh, here's her phone, ma'am." The guy gave her the old phone.

"how poor you are." Somi shows a little pity. "let's see what you got here."

Winter mentally cursed. They'll find out about Karina and there's a chance that that'll get her in danger.

"ooh, we got a little lover going on. You guys live together?" Somi asked her.

"no."

"yes, ma'am. They're in the same building." The guy replied.

"you're a liar." Somi chuckles. "I'll give you a little test. Maybe it'll keep you and your girlfriend alive."

"here's your files, solve it, if we managed to do it without any flaws, we'll let you work here." Hoshi explained. "keep an eye on her, will you?" he smiles to the guy beside Winter.

"bold of you to assume that I wanna work here."

Hoshi quickly slaps her face with so much force, it left a scar on her lips. Winter is capable of holding that pain because of her father's abuse. Hoshi smiles at her.

"give it a try. We'll be gentle with you."
