CHAPTER 61

Karina waits for Winter to go home. She has been coming home late for some days and Karina is worried about her all the time. she knows that she can't contact her. that's why she's always awake before Winter comes home.

"what time is it? where are you?" Karina constantly checks the time on her phone.

Karina peeks outside the window, checking for the bus. She then walks back to the couch, calming herself down.

Knockings on the front door startled Karina. She hurriedly opens it, hoping that it's Winter.

"I'm ho-"

Winter's words got cut off when Karina tightly hugs her.

"thank god, you're okay." Karina closed her eyes. "what took you so long?"

"the bus was late." Winter hugs her back. "I won't get tired of you hugging me every night."

"but you're freaking me out!" Karina slaps her arm. "did anyone follow you?"

"still. I don't know what they take from it. nothing really happened so far." Winter takes off her jacket. "if they're that advanced and has a large community, they're sure will plan out something."

"is there any way I can contact you? I'm getting stressed out."

"do you want contacts of my friends?" Winter walks over to the bedroom, followed by Karina.

"okay."

Winter turns on her computer, remembers that she keeps some phone numbers on her computer.

"ah... I only have Chaehyun's email, my parent's number, and... emails, only emails." Winter forgot that she haven't updated her list. "I'll take my phone."

"don't. it's okay. get it tomorrow." Karina grabs her hand when she's about to go outside. "can we just sleep?"

"I'll change and clean up first."

Karina gets home early today. She knows that Winter is still at campus, so she takes her time showering and cooks dinner for themselves. It's a bit empty without Winter contacting her for hours. she knows it's for her safety but if it's like this, Karina won't know what happened to her outside.

Karina: hey Yeji

Karina: how are you?

Yeji: hi! I thought you forget you have me

Yeji: I'm sorry I've been busy with my girlfriend

Yeji: you got promoted :(

Yeji: I miss you, sis

Karina: you're still a spammer lol

Karina: I've been busy as well. It's not that easy up here. Sometimes I miss being a worker

Yeji: but the money though.....

Karina: yeah

Yeji: are you okay?

Karina: I'm worried about Winter

Karina: someone is following her and I can't contact her

Yeji: why is that? followed by who?

Karina: I don't know. she insisted to work still. I told her to work from home

Yeji: stubborn

Karina: she is.

Yeji: so you guys are girlfriends now?

Karina: yes.

Yeji: I knew she's gonna be with you

Yeji: oh well

Yeji: I hope she's okay. stalkers are terrifying. Maybe it's one of her secret admirers.

Karina: I know for sure they're not

Yeji: oh

Yeji: I'm still at work, sis. We'll talk again later

Karina: okay. take care

Karina locks her phone after blasting some music to accompany herself.

Hours after hours, Karina starts worrying again. There's no way the bus is late two days in a row. Well, that's possible, of course, but Karina is aware that the bus rarely comes late.

"there must be a phone number I can call." Karina walks over to the computer and opens up Winter's emails.

After some time scrolling, Karina found Chaehyun's phone number on one of the emails. Regardless of what the email said, Karina dials the number and calls her.

"hello?" Chaehyun picked up.

"hi, Chaehyun. I'm Karina, Winter's girlfriend." Karina bites her bottom lip nervously.

"oh, is there anything I can help?"

"are you guys done with the work?"

"you mean, at campus? Yes. we're done about two hours ago. I remember Winter wanted to go home early so she decided not to work late."

Karina's heart drops. Things are moving slow as she starts panicking.

"oh, no. thank you, Chaehyun."

"is everything, okay?"

Karina hangs up the call. Her brain is not working properly with her state right now. if she called 911, they will tell her to wait 24 hours before reporting for missing person. If she waits for Winter to come home, there's a chance that she didn't.

Karina's eyes starts to water when she realized that she herself doesn't have someone to call. One last option is to take Winter's phone, charge it, and call someone in her contact. Karina gets out of her unit and hurriedly walks down the stairs.

"whoa, hey. Slow down."

Karina looks up and instantly bursts into tears when her girlfriend stands in front of her.

"you're scaring me!" Karina punched her lightly on the chest, then she leans on her, embracing Winter tightly. "where were you?"

"I was at the police station to give Wendy's documents." Winter sighs, rubbing her head and back. "I'm sorry, love."

"I hate this. I'll get you a new phone." Karina sobs on Winter's chest. "I'm not asking. I want you to have a phone to contact me."

"okay, okay." Winter grabs her hand after pulling away. "stop crying. I'm sorry, Karina."
