CHAPTER 29

Soobin approached Winter who's sitting on the bench where they usually take a break. He noticed that she's wearing a mask the whole day.

"what's with the mask?" Soobin sits beside her.

"my mom said I'm always sick after winter holiday. So, here I am." Winter explained with hoarse voice.

"you should stop smoking while you're recovering." Soobin nudged her arm playfully.

"it's cold. What am I supposed to do? don't tell me to drink coffee." Winter stifles a laugh.

"that's what I'm gonna say. Well, you can't drink. You can't make campfire on your room as well." Soobin rubs his chin.

"my mom made me soup every day. I can hold on to that."

"good." Soobin nods. "you can be flexible with your working hour, right? why don't you rest?"

"I need more income for my mom. I have to save up for my study as well."

"I feel like you gain more from your editing work." Soobin shrugs. "you don't even spoil yourself. I'm sure you have enough on your bank to buy a new apartment."

"no way." Winter scoffed. "I have to divide it for my mom, then my study... then smoke." She giggles. "... and then I can use them for myself. Like when I crave something."

"it's great that you have that skill. I just let my fiancé take care of it."

"I have to, right?"

Karina just got off from the bus, immediately found Winter on the bus stop. With a smoke on her hand and the other holding her phone to her ear, Winter smiles warmly at Karina then goes back to talk on the phone. Karina returns the smile and walks inside the building. She stops after stepping on some staircase, placing her hand on her chest.

"she's so pretty." Karina can feel her heartbeat. She takes a deep breath and let it out slowly.

"hey, you okay?"

Karina flinched then turns around. Lucky that she didn't fall. Winter is standing there with a worried face.

"oh, nothing." Karina let out a nervous laugh. "it's pretty far up. I need to prepare myself." She regrets what she said, all because she's suddenly got nervous.

"looks like you haven't got used to it." Winter stifles a laugh.

Karina heard Winter's husky voice. She's aware that Winter is probably unwell but she can't disagree that her voice is charming. Karina follows her upstairs, hiding her flushed face.

"okay, I'll be going. See you, Karina." Winter said as they both got to Karina's floor.

"see ya!" Karina quickly gets into her unit. "you dumb! Why did I say that?"

Winter gets interrupted by a phone call in the middle of her editing. Without looking, she picks it up.

"Winter~ what are you doing?" it's Chaehyun.

"I'm editing. What's up?" Winter twirls her chair as she leans back, focusing on Chaehyun.

"oh, did I disturb you?"

"no, not at all." Winter stifles a laugh. "do you need anything?"

"I wanna ask about our assignment. Can you help me?"

"sure."

Winter spend the rest of the evening teaching Chaehyun, switching to video call. They had a little conversation in between, making them forget about time.

"you did great!" Winter commented. "I didn't need to talk too much."

"but you helped me for the most of it." Chaehyun giggles. "are you free after this?"

"hm..." Winter checks the time. "well, I should be preparing for work now."

"oh no. I'm sorry I kept you too long."

"it's okay. if you need anything, you can call again." Winter smiles a little. "I better get going."

"okay! good luck at work!"

Right after she hung up, Winter hurriedly grabs a new shirt and a towel. She runs outside her room to the bathroom, trying her best to not bump into things.

"dear, are you okay? don't run around." Her mother noticed.

Shortly after, Winter runs back to her room, quickly dressed up and fixes her hair.

"I told you not to run. Where are you going?"

"Soobin is preparing his wedding. I promised him to take his shift." Winter said as she put on her shoes.

"okay. I thought something's wrong." The mother sighs in relief.

Soon after, Winter is on her way to the store where she work.
