CHAPTER 21

Getting off work, Yeji and Karina stops by a café at the company's lobby.

"take some leaves. You look like a zombie." Yeji suggested, stirring her coffee.

"I can't. you know the boss is really needy. I'd have a lot more work if I took leaves." Karina weakly replied as her throat dried up.

"your health matters." Yeji sternly said. "anyway, did you meet Winter this morning?"

Karina's brain sparks, remembering something from the bus.

"yup." Karina replied honestly.

"did you two get on the bus?" sounds like Yeji wants to dig up something.

"well, I did. then, I sleep for a while." Karina covered it up a bit. "I didn't really notice."

"oh." Yeji nodded, pursing her lips.

"why?"

"she sits beside you. this morning. Did you just lie to me?" Yeji squinted her eyes.

"no...? I told you I slept. How should I know if she sat beside me?" Karina defended herself.

"you should've known. She sees you when you're still awake." Yeji checks her phone. "she even asked about you."

"I told you, I didn't-"

"Winter will never lie to me, Karina." Yeji sighs. "you don't have feelings for her, do you?"

"geez, no! what are you talking about?" Karina groans. Her head is still in pain and her friend decided to pick a fight. How great, she thought.

"because I know you're hiding something. I won't be mad if you're honest." Yeji kept pushing her.

"oh, you will." Karina blurted out. "ah..."

"see? I'm mad because you lied." Yeji clenches her jaw. "she even waited for you to wake up. are you guys playing behind me?"

"my god, Yeji. I will never do that." Karina huffs. "can you just drop it? my head gets even worse."

"I can't believe you guys." Yeji scoffed. "then, what is she doing by doing all that?"

"ask her, then. I don't have the energy to fight with you."

Upon arriving in front of the apartment, Karina noticed Winter smoking at the bus stop. The two accidentally make eye contact. Winter immediately throws her cigarette on the ground, before walking back to the apartment

Karina thinks that Winter was avoiding her because of what happened this morning. Meanwhile, Winter ignores Karina's presence because Yeji thought that Winter shows too much care towards her bestfriend.

Since she left her phone earlier, Winter checks it right after she gets into her room. she noticed that Yeji called her and sent a few texts.

Yeji: I'm home

Yeji: are you still outside?

*missed call*

Yeji: I wanna go to the mall. Can you come with me?

*missed call*

Yeji: hey where r u?

Yeji: hello?

Winter decided to call her instead.

"hey, I can't go with you. what do you need?" Winter asked, sitting on her desk.

"I'm craving something. I think my period is coming."

"oh... should I go there instead? we can order in." Winter suggested

"okay. hurry up."

After a long ride with a bus and taxi, Winter arrived at Yeji's unit. She quickly presses the buttons for the password and walks in.

"Yeji?" Winter walks towards the bedroom.

"baby~" Yeji stands up as soon as her girlfriend stepped into the room. "I missed you." she said while hugging the shorter girl.

"what do you wanna eat? I'll order it for you." Winter smiles warmly.

"hm..." Yeji hummed. "can we cuddle?" Yeji grabs her jacket, pulling it gently.

"okay. wait." Winter walks towards the desk, taking her time to set up her laptop and taking off her jacket. "shouldn't we eat first?"

"I want something warm." Yeji said from her bed. "come here."

Winter quickly joins her, opening up her arm for Yeji to lay on. After thinking for a bit, Winter fiddles with her phone, ordering some food for themselves.

"I think Karina likes you." Yeji suddenly brought her up.

"hm?" Winter is still out of focus, looking at her phone. "sorry, I have this group project."

"Karina likes you." Yeji slaps her stomach gently. "what if she tried to take you from me?"

"what are you talking about? Why do you think that?" Winter averted her gaze towards Yeji, putting her phone away.

"because I can feel it. what did you do this morning?" Yeji pouts. "she 'accidentally' slept on you, you didn't even move her. other than that, you even missed your stop."

"I was being nice to a friend. She's your friend." Winter tried to assure her. "you're making it a big deal."

"it is a big deal." Yeji sighs. "because she lied to me about it."

"then don't get mad at me. I don't feel the need to lie to you. I'm telling the truth."

"I know. but I don't trust her." Yeji tightened her hug, as if afraid of something.

"I'll keep a distance. don't worry, okay? I'm sorry I made you feel this way."
