CHAPTER 43

Winter opens her eyes as the brightness of the sun shines on her face. She's facing the other side of the bed, finding no one.

"I'm here." Karina climbs back to the bed. "go back to sleep."

"don't you have to go to work?" Winter scoots closer to her, closing her eyes

"it's Saturday." Karina giggles. "you're the one that have to work every day. I just want you to have a rest."

"not too long, though." Winter feels an arm wrapped around her neck. Her head is resting on Karina's chest by now. "I always have assignments and deadlines."

"you have to keep going okay? I don't want you to lose your spirit." Karina caressed her head. "your hard work will pay off."

"yeah, I hope so."

Not long after that, the two can hear a phone vibrates rapidly on the bedside table. Winter groans, knowing very well that it's hers.

"you should check it. maybe it's important." Karina taps her cheek lightly to wake her up.

Winter grabs her phone and opens her group chat.

Chaehyun: we're called by the professor

Chaehyun: it's about our project. He said it has potential

Kai: nah. I'm not doing that program again

Yeonjun: why not?

Yeonjun: maybe he wants us to work on it

Chaehyun: do you want to do an online meeting with him?

Chaehyun: he promised us a good grade

Karina reads it along with Winter. she waits for Winter to respond to the group.

Winter: I'll be responsible for it

Winter: Kai, you sure you don't wanna join? We can graduate earlier

Winter: maybe

Chaehyun: really? I had a thought about it but I don't know how.

Winter: I think you can make something good enough to have some sort of 'easy access'

Winter: you don't have to take some courses if they think you're good enough. Then, you can go straight to your thesis.

Yeonjun: damn

Kai: he doesn't have the brain for that

Yeonjun: stfu. I'll kick you out of this group if you don't wanna join

Kai: fine

Winter looks at Karina after locking her phone.

"I guess, it's good news right?" Karina shrugs. "why do you have to be responsible for it?"

"because back then the ideas come from me. the professor took it as a teamwork. I have to, right?"

"aw... you're such a mature baby." Karina teases her, pinching her cheek.

"stop~" Winter whines, snuggling into Karina's neck. "I wanna finish my study so I can earn more money."

"is that your goal?" Karina asked as she's caressing her back.

"for now, yeah. I wanna make my mom's life better before... the time's up."

"you've been thinking about that lately. Are you scared?" Karina tightened her hug slightly.

"of course, I'm scared. The only person that cares for me, loves me for who I am, be there for me when I need her, will be gone. I won't be able to live my life the same way, knowing that she's not there." Winter sighs.

"if you need anything, you have me, okay? many people cares about you whether you know it or not."

"I don't even have friends. How can you say that?" Winter decided to fight her laziness, sitting up slowly. "I need to open up the project again. It's still snappy and laggy."

"you're aware of that but still submit it?" Karina asked, watching Winter starts to work on her laptop.

"it's good enough for the deadline." Winter shrugs. "can I leave after this?"

"sure. you wanna eat first? Take a shower maybe?" Karina walks towards her, hugging her from behind. Her hand naughtily lifts up Winter's shirt, uncovering her abs.

"do you really like it that much?" Winter stifles a laugh.

"I love it." Karina plants a kiss on Winter's neck. "I love all of you."

Winter goes silent. That makes Karina questions things.

"what's wrong?" Karina asked.

"nothing." Winter smiles at her. "I love you too."

Wendy just got home from work. Seeing her sister focusing on her PC, she decided to greet her with a light slap on her forearm.

"what did you do last night?" Wendy teased.

"what do you mean?" Winter replied without looking.

"you didn't come home. Of course, you did something with her? how's it? can she make you-"

"you shut up or I tell dad." Winter looks up at her. "get a shower. You smell like trash."

"I can tell mom that you're no longer a virgin." Wendy laughs at her. "c'mon. it's not something you should keep a secret. Chill out."

"it's my privacy. Know your limit." Winter rolled her eyes.

"so you did it?!" Wendy excitedly turns Winter's chair facing her. "I'm proud of you!" she awkwardly hugs her. "damn, I didn't know you can get laid."

"it's not a big deal. I didn't even know what I'm feeling."

"because you never explore. Go out there and find what you like. Including sexual things." Wendy sits back on the bed. "we're both adults. We can talk about this freely."

"well, I'm not comfortable talking about it." Winter continues to work on her editing.

"I know." Wendy stifles laugh. "I just want you to be happy, Winter."
