CHAPTER 49

Shits happened but life must go on. Winter made up her mind to continue her days even when she's still haunted by the loss of her mother. right now, she's in front of her laptop on the coffee table, sitting on the floor.

"hey, baby..." Karina entered the unit, getting of from work. "how are you feeling today?" she sits on the couch, glancing on the screen.

"not bad. It was lonely, but I'm good." Winter smiles at her, leaning on Karina's knee. "how's your work?"

"it was tiring. I had fun being busy, though." Karina sighs, caressing Winter's head.

"you must be bored staying here with me. taking care of me, basically." Winter lowered her head. "I'll find a new place."

"why did you say that? do you hate it here?"

"I just want to live alone. I like being with you here. I want to have a better life as well." Winter looks up at her. "don't you want me to have a wealthy life?"

"of course, I want that. we can look for it together."

"that means, I have to save up again. I just have enough to buy myself a pack of cig. I missed my deadlines, I have to pay for my study that I supposed to finish in less than four months, which is impossible." Winter complained. "well.... I guess I can stay here a bit longer."

"I want you here forever if it's possible." Karina wraps her arm around Winter's neck. "I love you, Winter."

"I love you too."

Winter sits on the bed, with Karina already sleeping on the other side. She stares at her phone, reading her group chat after a while.

Yeonjun: you guys remember me?

Chaehyun: yes....?

Yeonjun: remember the game that we made?

Chaehyun: yes

Yeonjun: me and Kai decided to make it commercial

Kai: you mean you?

Yeonjun: you want the money too stfu

Chaehyun: are we gonna left out Winter?

Yeonjun: well....

Kai: that game is still shitty

Kai: how are we gonna make something?

Chaehyun: so we still need her, right?

Yeonjun: she didn't even show up

Yeonjun: I'll let you know if we need any help

Winter is thinking about joining them but she already have a lot on her plate.

"Win..." Karina called, still closing her eyes. she pulls on Winter's shirt lightly. "cuddle..."

Winter smiles a little. she locks her phone and joins Karina, lying down beside her with her back facing Karina. Karina goes straight to wrap her arms around Winter's waist. Winter let out a deep breath, moving back a little to snug better into Karina's embrace.

"I won't go anywhere, love. I will always have your back."

Karina just found a good deal for the mother's funeral. She thought that it's quite cheap, so, she decided to tell Winter about it.

"Winter?" Karina approached her on the living area. "do you have time and energy to talk?"

"what are we gonna talk about?" Winter averts her focus to Karina.

"your mom's funeral. She won't be staying at the hospital for a long time." Karina goes straight to the point.

"ah... right... I almost forget about that." Winter quickly opens up the internet to look for a funeral service.

"I already found the service. It's quite cheap." Karina noticed. "I hope you let me help you."

"how much is it?" Winter looks at her.

"I'll take care of that." Karina knows that Winter is short on money. Good thing that Karina has some spare money to help her girlfriend. "you're okay with it, right? I just don't want you to get worried."

"are you serious? I can't let you do that. at least I have to pay something." Winter furrowed her eyebrows.

"you can pay it another time." Karina smiles at her. "it's not nice to postpone someone's funeral."

"I know." Winter looks down. "I owe you a lot for this."

Karina finally booked the service for Winter's mother. Karina walks over to Winter at the dining table.

"everything is set." Karina informed.

"really?" Winter wipes her lips. "how much?"

"don't think about it." Karina smiles at her. "finish you food. I have to work on something." She ruffles Winter's hair and kiss it before she leaves the room.

Winter smiles to herself, feeling a little better from seeing Karina after getting busy with herself. With Winter focusing on her work more, her financial state is a little better now. then, her phone rings. She quickly picks it up.

"hello?" Winter takes her time swallowing the food in her mouth.

"good evening. I'm Professor Wang."

"oh, good evening sir. Is there anything I can help?" Winter is a little confused because usually professors will contact her through emails.

"I forgot to tell you that I want to use your group project for my company. I think I already sent you a proposal to ask for your permission. I also sent one to your friend." He paused. "I mean, I will give you a credit for your group's hard work."

"I will read the proposal, sir. How about my other friend?" Winter leans back on the chair.

"they agree. They want to continue to work with me. but, they told me that I should tell you as well. I respected you as a creator and programmer as well as my student."

"again, sir. I will read the proposal. I'm more than happy to work with you and your company. I will give you a follow up." Winter smiles.

"oh, sure. take your time. just text me from my number. State your name as well."

Winter then hangs up the call. This is a great chance for Winter. she's proud of herself for doing such a good work. She hopes that it can change her life.
