The 141 Task Force alongside Los Vaqueros successfully hacked Hassan's phone in Mexico. But he had to be let go. Although Elena had never been in such a situation, she knew why Laswell and Shephard had called the cards. Thus, the next step, assigned to Price and Laswell, took place in Spain. In no time, Elena was already sitting on a plane, her back rested, an open book in front of her.
''What's that?'' Gaz asked as he took a seat next to her.
Elena shot him a quick look to her right.
''History,'' she said, her eyes returning back to the pages in front of her.
Gaz placed his fingers on the back of the book, slightly lifting it to see the cover. Elena didn't protest, helping him raise the book to an eye-appropriate level. Gaz's eyebrows raised.
''Pirates?'' he wondrously asked.
''It's... a good introduction to the best pirates of all time,'' Elena lowered the book and, again, gave Gaz a glance.
''But why?''
''I'm interested in history,'' Elena shrugged. ''Don't know that much about pirates, I suppose... but I've just started the book.''
''Who you're reading about?'' Gaz scratched his eyebrow, leaning closer to look at the pages.
Meanwhile, Price, clearing his throat, took a seat across from them and crossed his arms, leaning his back, which definitely needed some rest. His eyes kept going back and forth between the two soldiers in front of him.
''Just Henry Avery,'' Elena replied quietly.
''Oh, yeah- just...'' Gaz rolled his eyes playfully, taking another look into the book and then back up at Elena. His face was much closer to hers than he had expected. He moved backward, puffing some air out from his nose. ''You'll have to tell me something about this A-Avery guy then after we're done with this.''
''Sure,'' Elena said, pursing her lips.
''Which, sadly, won't involve you joining us with a sniper in hand and a Ghillie suit on...'' Gaz continued, turning his head to her again.
Elena couldn't stop the small smile that formed on her face.
''I'm not that good of a sniper,''
''Don't believe it,'' Gaz chuckled.
''Seriously...'' Price added, both heads immediately turning to him as if embarrassed that he had been sitting across from them the whole time. ''Didn't you take any sniper classes?''
''I did,'' Elena answered. ''Just... not that good at it. I know my weak spot.''
''Could use the practice then,'' Price smiled, his eyes full of sincerity.
''We'd enjoy your company too,'' Gaz added.
Elena immediately turned her eyes to the right, only having a second of eye contact with him, as Gaz immediately looked down, starting to feel some heat on his cheeks.
''I'll keep Laswell company. Don't want to leave her out there alone,'' she explained.
''You keep a good eye out on us then for now... will have to give you an opportunity to shoot through some scopes then another time,'' Price chuckled and stood up. ''We'll be landing soon. Gaz, follow me, and let's get suited up.''
Gaz nodded.
''Copy that, sir,''
Elena cleared her throat, turning her eyes to the paragraph she had abandoned minutes ago.
''Seriously, you'll um... I'll want you to tell me what good stuff you read,'' Gaz said and, without looking, Elena smiled, nodding slightly.
Elena and Laswell didn't need a lot of time to get dressed in their gear and strap themselves with the necessary items. Of course, Elena would have a sniper as well, which she didn't feel too comfortable holding. She had always preferred a close-up gunfight to one where she had to take time and precision to target an enemy. Moments that needed quick draws and reactions were her favorite. Suppose she had had more experience with those.
