Gaz's eyes opened instantly as if he had been shaken awake. His eyebrows furrowed and Gaz wondered what had woken him up. After a few seconds, he could realize it was a smell. A smell wasn't the correct word though. It was a pleasant scent. A scent that reminded him of home.
Gaz sat up in his bed and without thinking too much, left his bed behind.
The scent only grew thicker, as he, while rubbing his eyes, walked down the short hallway into the lounge area. He found that he was not the only person to have noticed something.
Soap was leaning against the kitchen counter and had turned his head upon Gaz's entrance.
''What's that?'' Gaz asked sleepily.
''It's pie!'' Soap replied and chuckled, his hair still messy as he had just gotten out of bed too.
Gaz approached the counter and observed the beautifully set pie. It was placed on a white plate and smelled delicious. And delicious was a word that merely Gaz's morning brain could come up with. It was far more than that. Although Gaz had never been the biggest baker, he could tell that it was apple pie. Besides, the rest of the apples had been placed in a bowl to the left.
Gaz looked up at Soap with a confused yet enlightened expression.
''Did... Elena make this?'' he asked.
''Well-'' Soap began and chuckled again. ''I doubt Price did!''
Gaz nodded and licked his lips, turning his attention back to the pie. How could he not fall for Elena? Making them baked goods? Was it for them? Soon, his question was answered, and Soap noticed a small note placed next to the plate.
''For welcoming me into a new home. Please eat while it's still warm. And save some for the Captain,'' the Scotsman quietly read out and locked eyes with Gaz.
Gaz placed his fingers against the pie.
''Still hot,'' he added and shrugged.
Just then, they turned their heads back at the sound of a door opening.
''It's not the only thing,'' Ghost's gruff voice told them, having opened the bathroom door.
Gaz and Soap left the pie behind and walked over to the Lieutenant.
''Did she leave a pie here as-'' Soap began, patting Ghost's shoulder, but was instantly cut off.
''Wow,'' Gaz grinned and said. ''It's...''
''All tidy,'' Ghost finished.
Gaz stepped inside the bathroom and turned his eyes to the sink where products they had never seen before in their lives lay on the counter.
''What the fuck is a serum?'' Soap asked, picking up one of the items, but Ghost instantly removed it from his hands.
''Probably for her face,'' Ghost replied and placed it back.
''What the fuck does she need serums for? Some chemist is she?'' Soap grimaced at Ghost and looked back at Gaz, a joking tone in his voice. ''But seriously... what's she done with the place?''
''You complaining?'' Gaz asked and crossed his arms.
''Hell no!'' Soap shook his head, causing Gaz to smile. ''She's made it feel more like...''
''Home,'' Gaz added and looked around. ''Even... seems to smell different here now.''
''Probably because of the-'' Ghost said and cleared his throat. ''-Smooth and repair plus vanilla bean shampoo... for frizzy, unruly hair.''
