Price sat at the head of the table, the dim light of the briefing room casting a stern shadow over his rugged features. As Elena watched him, he leaned back in his chair, waiting for the rest of Task Force 141 to settle in. Laswell's voice crackled over the speakerphone, bringing an air of urgency to the room.
"Alright, team," Price began, his tone commanding attention. "We've got a situation. Say 'hello' to Laswell.''
Elena nodded, her eyes narrowing as she listened intently, although, in her mind, she was happy to work with Kate again.
''Hello, Kate,'' Gaz happily said, leaning forward. ''What have you got to tell us?''
Clearing her voice, Kate began.
''When Makarov escaped, he mobilized his army on multiple fronts. Konni Group hit the Urzikstan Port before sunrise,'' she told them and Soap let out a low whistle, shaking his head in disbelief. ''Farah and Alex Keller were planning to obtain ballistic missiles from Shadow Company. Phillip Graves was the one behind this. Turns out, he faked his death after our encounter in Las Almas."
''Bastard's like a cockroach. Just won't die,'' he said and Elena raised an eyebrow in agreement.
''Farah hurt?'' Price questioned.
''Negative. Her team engaged, took casualties- left Konni with a kill count of her own,''
''Good on ya, Farah... What'd they get from the port?'' Gaz asked.
''A shipment of American missiles,'' Kate answered.
''Konni's got her own missiles... What does Makarov want these for?'' Soap asked in disbelief.
''We need to find out. I'm tracking them now. Once I get a fix, we'll action it,'' Kate replied.
''You said multiple fronts, Laswell... Give us a target,'' Ghost demanded in a low voice.
Elena shot him a look of agreement.
''Konni forces are converging on a nuclear power plant in Urzikstan as we speak,'' Kate answered.
''Active?'' Elena questioned, immediately followed by Price's similar question.
''Is the plant active?'' he asked.
''Abandoned when the UFL beat Barkov,'' Kate explained.
''Then what's there?'' Gaz asked.
''All five of you- as soon as you can,'' Kate answered.
''Rog. Ghost, Ibanez, and I'll recce the plant. Soap and Gaz, secure the perimeter,'' Price instructed and Elena felt her heartbeat pick up its pace. A Sergeant among a Lieutenant and a Captain. First large mission in a while. The other two ranks of her kind left together. Price had told her about the Lieutenant test months ago. Perhaps the time had come when she could prove herself again. ''If Makarov's going nuclear, we'll stop him in his tracks.''
''Solid copy. Let's get after it, Bravo,'' Soap added and Elena swallowed.
Price glanced at each member of the team, his eyes landing on Elena.
"We need to retrieve those missiles and find out what Graves is doing once and for all. Elena, I know you didn't even fully meet Graves last time but... he's a tricky bastard. But our focus is on Makarov now.''
Elena nodded, determination hardening her features.
"I'll do whatever it takes."
"Good," Price affirmed. "Laswell, any more details?"
Laswell's voice came through with a sense of urgency.
''No. Just... gear up and be ready to move out,'' she informed. ''I'll keep you informed.''
