Elena sat in the helicopter, the hum of the rotors filling the cabin as she leaned back against her seat, headset snug over her ears. Soap and Ghost sat nearby, both silent, their expressions unreadable. Over the comms, the mission briefing began, Kate's voice breaking through the static.
Soap's voice came first.
"We broke Romanova,"
Price's voice followed, calm and curious.
"How?"
The sound of Kate typing accompanied her response.
"Enhanced financial interrogation,"
Gaz chimed in, a hint of approval in his tone.
"Shepherd's intel paid offm"
Kate corrected him without missing a beat.
"It's our intel now,"
Elena glanced toward Ghost, who gave her a small nod, as Price's voice returned.
"What do we have that's actionable?"
The briefing screen visuals were only in her mind's eye as she listened. Kate's voice continued.
"One of Romanova's many shell companies purchased an abandoned apartment complex in St. Petersburg for the Konni group."
Gaz was quick to interject.
"When?"
Ghost spoke evenly.
"Recently,"
A list of transactions scrolled by in her imagination as Price offered his assessment.
"Probably a Konni outpost,"
"That'd be my bet, Captain,"
"I located the building," Kate spoke.
Elena could picture the satellite imagery as Kate detailed it.
"Recent sat-imagery shows a recovery balloon on the roof,"
"Only good reason for that is quick removal of something you don't want found," Gaz added.
"Or someone..." Soap interjected.
"The complex is a maze," Kate explained.
"Gaz'll sweep from the bottom up. I'll overwatch the rooftop with fire support," Price commanded.
"How do we extract?" Gaz's questioned.
"Helo's too risky. You boys catch anything worth bringing home, Nik'll pull you out via fixed wing," Kate explained.
"The balloon..."
"Skyhook,"
"If Makarov's there, get him, Bravo..." Kate instructed.
Elena sighed before speaking.
''Stay safe,'' she wished them.
Elena exhaled quietly, steadying herself for what was to come. However, it only took a few hours for Gaz and her Captain to finish the mission. Having secured an unconscious Nolan, they secured the man to the helicopter line and extracted themselves into safety. As she, accompanied by Soap and Ghost, flew to a nearby base, she couldn't help but wish for the entire mission to be over. Despite never complaining about a job, she felt exhausted by the current one.
It was time for another debrief.
The air in the room was thick with tension as the digital glow from Ghost's monitor illuminated the otherwise dim space. Soap and Elena sat next to him, as he shared the screen. Kate worked efficiently, her fingers flying over the keyboard.
