Elena's memories were a chaotic swirl of pain and desperation. The adrenaline-fueled struggle had brought her to complete exhaustion. As she untied the last of Gaz's ropes, her mind fell into a fainted nightmare. She could feel the weight of Gaz's hands, as his concentrated gaze steadied her trembling body and face. The pain in her body pulsed with every heartbeat, a constant reminder of the terror.
''It's okay- I've got you,'' Gaz whispered, seeing Elena's eyes flutter shut.
Lying her down on the cold floor, he apologized, leaning in to untie the ropes of his Captain, firstly removing the tape that covered his mouth.
''Passed out?'' Price asked but Gaz shook his head, giving Elena a glance through his shoulder.
''It's just... too much,'' he whispered back softly.
Then, one after one, they freed each other. Gaz hadn't even noticed that the Scotsman had already woken up. He had seen everything too. Every last one of them had a petrified and weary expression.
Kate rushed over to Elena on the floor. She was breathing and living, yet the older woman knew that it would have consequences.
''We need to get out of here. We have no idea how many men Willem has,'' she suggested and looked up at Gaz.
Gaz, his arm around Elena, raised her from the floor and whispered words of reassurance, promising that they would get through this together. As they stumbled out of the dark, gritty room, the cool night air felt like a breath of freedom. Gaz supported her, and she leaned into him. He had to remain strong for her, as she had done for him.
''Kyle-'' Elena whispered, her face resting against his chest.
''I'm here...'' he confirmed and looked down at her face briefly.
She was breathing calmly. Much more calm than before.
Battered and bruised, they reached the room where August resided. Ordered to stay behind with Elena in his arms, Gaz only listened as the woman took seconds to shoot the remaining man on Willem's side, causing a scream of panic to escape from the businessman.
August was rescued from the clutches of the enemy and the group carefully navigated the shadows, avoiding any potential threats that might still lurk in the darkness. Gaz couldn't let his eyes linger too long on the man, as he felt the man was partially responsible for the state they were all in. Especially the person in his arms.
He looked away.
''Look,'' Soap pointed out, as his eyes had spotted a small room with glass-clear windows. Looking inside, Gaz noticed a single dim light that exposed a makeshift storage area. ''Something in there perhaps?''
Although Elena remained silent, Gaz noticed that her eyes were no longer shut. Her head facing the way, she looked at the disarray, as they walked in. Supported by the man, she scanned the surroundings. With their keen survival instincts, the group quickly located a dusty first aid kit tucked away on a neglected shelf. The kit, though worn, appeared to be surprisingly intact.
Gaz gently guided Elena to sit on an overturned crate, and Kate, with a determined expression, seized the first aid kit while Soap rummaged through the scattered boxes.
''Here's some water and... mildly clean clothes. Let's clean ourselves up,'' he said, looking at the items in the box.
''Hand some over,'' Kate said and nodded.
