requested! my first actual one shot that primarily takes place in rtte lol. they're about 18 here and they are not dating but hiccup still gets jealous when astrid interacts with the newcomer to dragons edge
there are TWO part 2's to this and for the first part 2, they are NOT dating but for the alternate part 2, they ARE dating. so depending on which one you want to carry on with, you have to see it in that way
It had only been two months since the Gang had moved to the Edge. They settled in pretty quick considering that all their huts were built and they are now just adding some final touches to the clubhouse.
They had been getting a few visitors then and now asking about the sudden infrastructure on what was once a barren island. Luckily, they kept all their enemies at bay.
Nothing too big happened on the Edge. The Gang was still great friends with each other and did many bonding activities.
They were testing out a new function of their dome, situated in the centre of the Edge, when Astrid noticed a boat at their dock.
"Hey guys, are we expecting any visitors today?" Asked Astrid as she hovered in the air on Stormfly's back.
"No, why?" Hiccup responded.
"There's someone at the dock. I'll go check it out," Astrid offered and dived down with Stormfly.
To her surprise, it was just another viking, around her age, who looked like he had been through war based on the state of his boat.
"'Morning, is there anything I can do for you?" She asked as she moved towards the man cautiously.
"Why hello there. My name is Ragnar and I've come from a very far away place in search of a better life. My boat was caught in a Maelstrom and I need a place to rest for awhile," he asked, more like begging.
"I'm so sorry. Of course you can come stay with us for a while, follow me," she smiled at the man and brought him up to the dome where Hiccup and the rest were.
"Hey, Hiccup?"
"Hey, Astrid! Who's this?" Hiccup asked, raising his brow.
"This is Ragnar. He's come in search of refuge from a Maelstrom he faced," she said. She wasn't sure how Hiccup would react because Hiccup usually jumps to conclusions and makes assumptions on people.
"Nice to meet you, Ragnar," Hiccup offered his hand which Ragnar took and shook it, "I'm Hiccup and this is Dragons Edge. We'll definitely let you stay here for a while,"
"Thank you so much," Ragnar expressed his gratitude and followed Astrid to where he would be staying.
They brought him to the Clubhouse. Despite still being in the late stages of renovation, it was livable and a great place for Ragnar to stay.
Hiccup brought some furs from his hut and Fishlegs brought some bread, assuming that Ragnar would be starving from the long journey.
They left Ragnar for his privacy and the Gang continued on with their training.

Hiccup woke up extra early this morning because he wanted to show Astrid a new project he had been working on before she went for her morning run.
He got dressed and rushed to her hut as fast as his legs could carry him. "Hey, Astr- Astrid?" To his surprise, there was no one in her hut.
The bed was made, which meant that she either never came back to sleep or left early. The disappearance of her axe which was usually hung near the bed further proved that she had already left.
Hiccup mounted Toothless and soared over the Edge in search for Astrid. Part of him was worried and the other part wasn't. He knew that Astrid could survive on her own but what if this time someone too strong had taken her on. What if she couldn't protect herself?
As he flew over the dense forest, he heard the the clanging of metals and dived down to the noise.
He landed a few feet away and hid behind a bush. Toothless ready to fire a plasma blast and the pair carefully looked at what, or who, was making the sound of clanging.
From behind the bush, he saw Astrid fighting with... Ragnar?! Assuming that Astrid was now threatened by the newcomer, both Hiccup and Toothless charged at him.
Hiccup protecting Astrid and Toothless pinning Ragnar down, mouth wide-open, ready to fire.
"No, stop!" She hollered and Toothless looked up at her with innocent and sorrowful eyes.
"Astrid, he was literally fighting with you. You okay?" Hiccup asked, looking for any cuts or bruises on her.
She face-palmed and let out a groan of annoyance, "Oh you absolute dork, no he wasn't trying to kill me!"
"Then? You were losing to him!" Hiccup retorted.
"I asked him to train with me! And he's just stronger than me! You always jump to conclusions...," Astrid sighed and helped Ragnar up.
"I'll see you up for breakfast in ten," said Astrid and left with Ragnar.
After that incident, Hiccup started losing his trust with Ragnar and kept a close eye on him.
Ragnar ended up staying for more than a week but within that week, Hiccup had noticed that wherever Astrid was, Ragnar was there too and vice versa.
For some reason, that made him feel jealous. Real jealous. He had known Astrid for 3 years and Ragnar has grown closer to Astrid than he has.
They always sat down next to each other for every meal and he ended up staying is Astrid's hut. Oh boy, the day Hiccup found out that Ragnar stayed in Astrid's hut wasn't a good day for everyone on the Edge.
Hiccup and Astrid fought like hell.
"He's still a stranger! You can't just let a man into your hut like that!" He shouted. Despite the two being in his hut, everyone could hear them. I mean everyone.
"So? He's sleeping on the bottom floor and I'm on the top floor!" Astrid shouted back, arms crossed in front of her chest.
"I don't care, Astrid! He stays in the clubhouse until it's time for him to go!"
"Gods, Hiccup! Are you jealous or something?! Sometime I sleep in your hut, in the same bed, and you say nothing. Then someone sleeps on the bottom floor and you make a ton of drama!"
The argument continued and continued on until Hiccup put his foot down.
"That's it, Astrid! Ragnar leaves tomorrow morning," Hiccup shouted as he slammed his fist on the table.

The next morning, Ragnar bid everyone a goodbye and tried to do the same to Hiccup but he refused the handshake.
After seeing Ragnar off, Hiccup still felt the jealousy in him. It wasn't entirely because of Ragnar but because he wanted Astrid to be his.
He couldn't bare seeing Astrid date anyone else. It sounds stupid but sometimes that's the way it is.
He was just worried that Astrid would end up liking Ragnar and Hiccup would never let the dream of his 15 year old self come true.
to the person who requested this, i'm really sorry if you don't like it because frankly speaking, this was extremely hard for me to write.
would i have wanted them to talk it out? would i have wanted hiccup to confess? would i have wanted them to have jealous sex? TOO MANY IDEAS AND I JUST HAD TO GO WITH THE MOST BORING ONE OF ALL
so yeah i'm super frustrated with how this came out but there's no other way for me to change it.
