Lando's POV
"Your mum asked her to come here? That can't be right? Right?" Max asks as Daisy disappears out the door of the private dining room. I just shake my head as I stand up, following her to the door with the impressive business card still clasped between my fingers. I prop the door open just a little, watching as she gets the edge of the room and pauses, standing out with her hair and dress from all the diners between me and her before she walks over and talks to a guy at the bar after checking her watch. "I mean if your mum thinks it's a good idea, maybe it's worth considering?" Max continues when I don't reply, the crack in the door meaning I only have one eye on her and I'm busy concentrating on her next steps.
She only exchanges a couple of words with the guy before putting a hand on his arm and walking out the room. It takes only a moment before the guy grabs his jacket and follows her, leaving me scoffing that she brought her cheating boyfriend with her on a 'work trip'.
"No, it doesn't," I say as I let the door close and walk back over to the table, dropping her card in the bin as I go and sit where I was before. "My mum always thinks she knows what is best for me but it's my career. I like my team, I like how we function - I have plenty of endorsements, I don't need anything else. I definitely don't need Daisy."
"Yeah you have Tumi - oooh she works with fucking Jude Bellingham mate," Max exclaims as he stops scrolling through his phone and I look over in surprise. "Fuck off - she reps Fitzpatrick!" He says turning his phone around to me to show that one of my favourite golfers is indeed on her list. "Mate this is a good client list - she's clearly got something good going for her... maybe it's worth a conversation?"
"It's not. She's not here for business, not matter what she says, she just left with some guy at the bar. She's using my mum as an excuse to go on holiday with her boyfriend who I'm pretty sure cheated on her... so this is a no-go. Besides, she might think she knows motorsport because we used to know her but she has no experience and no clients. Neither does her agency - or at least that's what she said," I reiterate to him and he nods slowly as he thinks it over, still ogling over the names on the list.
"Why not ask Mason to ask Jack or Jude?" Max asks after a moment, leaning back in his seat and I just frown at the words, waiting for more information. "Mate she reps Grealish too... or her team does anyway. Apparently she has three agents working to her," he reads off the phone directly as I hum and pour myself some water. That was impressive even I had to admit. She had to be like what? Twenty-two now? Her birthday was in May so she wasn't far off being twenty-three.
If I remembered correctly. Big if.
"It's worth feeling this out isn't it?" Max asks quietly, snapping me out of my daze as I had zoned out staring at the water in my glass. I don't know why but the obvious answer to me was just no. No it was not a good idea to 'feel out'. I liked what I had, she was right, I was comfortable, what's wrong with that?
"Nope!" I say popping the 'p', ignoring the way that Max waits for me to expand on what I'm saying, no doubt endlessly disappointed when I don't finish it off. "I like what we have going. Fraser's class, there's no one that works harder for me and if she's got this flashy client list, how well is she actually working with these people? Fraser travels most of the season with me, there's no point in upsetting that balance is there?" I point out and Max hums in agreement, leaving me relieved that I wasn't just reassuring myself but that I was making sense to him as well.
I think I was anyway. It didn't escape my notice that her card was slipped into his wallet quietly at the end of the meal as we got ready to pay and leave, surprised when the host refused to let us, saying that Daisy already had it sorted. Wait no, it's Astera. It always was such a weird and yet wonderful name. It just never fit her as well as Daisy did but maybe I was biased, it was my nickname for her. That's what it really meant, her parents had named her after the flower family that daisy's came from: Asteraceae.
