Daisy's POV
"You know, you've made this the garage to be in," Laurent drawls as he leans forward on the barrier I've moved behind and I almost jump out of my skin as I look over at him in shock. My ex is dressed to the nines in a black shirt and white jacket, giving just enough star power without rubbing it anyone's face. "He's a star..." he informs me with a grin, head nodding in Lando's direction as he moves to rest on his elbows and look at me, his bright blue eyes that were once my escape, now just a friendly reminder of the changes and definitely nothing in comparison to the green eyes across the garage that I knew would be on us momentarily.
"He's made the garage somewhere to be. Nothing to do with me," I tell him back the way, smirking when I look forward and see Lando looking back at me. At us. With a rather unimpressed look given how he'd barely been gone ten minutes and now had to be in the car, unable to break up this reunion. I just shake my head at him, trying to indicate there was nothing to worry about while waving lightly and chuckling when Laurent copies me and I can see Lando resist the urge to swear at the pair of us before he gets into his car.
"That was mean... but whatever. I'm going to rock," I hear Lando say through the headphones shortly after the radio check and while everyone else looks confused at each other, I smile and wave once more as his car leaves the garage.
"I know of at least twenty people that wouldn't be in this garage today if it weren't for you and I'm not talking about the celebrities. I'm talking about the sponsors and the engineers that you talked into McLaren and will no doubt, repeat at Mercedes," Laurent quips and I roll my eyes, not dignifying the words with a response as my eyes are glued to Lando's car on it's warm up lap, listening to him and his engineer discuss different modes that I actually did understand. "Daisy, when he wins... it's your win too. That's why you're an agent."
"Who told you?" I ask, finally breaking my eye contract from him as I turn my head to look at Laurent and see him smirking again.
"You got to the track late... I got here on time. Besides it's been public for days," he shrugs and I roll my eyes at him, bumping him with my shoulder as I look back at the screen, mentally groaning with the lecture likely coming my way. "I agree with you if it helps?"
I freeze for a moment in shock, ignoring him as I see a camera on us in the corner of my eye. I keep my eyes facing forward on the screen in front of us, showing Lando's onboard. It seems that the one of Laurent is superimposed on the rest of the screens and I hear a sound of disgust from Lando, the big screen that he's passing showing our image - clearly to his disgust and our amusement as we laugh. I wait until Laurent's press agent hurries them away before I let out a sigh of acknowledgement and turn my head to see his eyes on me.
"You do?"
"Yeah, you needed a break. I tried telling you exactly that. In fact, I remember begging you for exactly that..." he muses and my guilt flares up, quickly disinteresting me in the conversation as Lucy comes to stand on my other side. She wasn't paying attention to us though, eyes glued to her phone as she looked through the many emails that were plaguing her. A quick check showed the inbox number at over 20,000. "Still..."
I don't ask him to elaborate, feeling the world melt away as I watch Lando's car curve around the last corner and into the qualifying lap. Laurent has the good sense not to push for any more information until Lando crosses the line, putting his car top of the time board by a considerable margin as I swear under my breath.
"Is that not good?"
"We have a bet," I say evasively, listening to Lando's voice feeding back before he's asked to come in. I turn to Laurent, cupping my hand around his ear to whisper the secret that we're trying to keep under wraps. "If he comes first then we continue hiding our relationship... and... it seems like he is definitely going to come first," I say with a happy sigh, watching as the car is rolled backwards in front of us to the garage. I already know they won't go out again, confident that their gap is enough to keep them in for the next round and so Lando's eyes will have seen me do that, watching me instead of the data. Laurent chuckles when I move away, enough space between us that we both feel more comfortable. "Yes... it is good..." I pull out my phone as I look forward, eyes dropping to Lucy's once more as I see her frantically typing and I scroll through my contacts, excusing myself for a moment from the pair and moving to the back of the garage. I return seven minutes later and this time lean over to Lucy.
