Daisy's POV
"So... here's the room," Lando mutters as he opens the door and ushers me in past him, something I do happily because at this point... I'm too tired to argue. I just want to get settled, maybe get some sleep but probably just do some work. Sleep would be nice... I was definitely not well rested after last night.
"I know Lan, I saw it this morning," I remind him as I drop the suitcases by his sofas and look around noticing the lie from before. "These sofas are not comfortable," I say flatly as I look around the room recognising them from being the same in my former room.
"Well it's better than being an hour away... at least this way you can have an extra forty minutes to sleep," Lando says as he dumps my bags next to me before walking over to his bed, picking up the laptop as he falls backwards onto it. "You've made your choice."
"I was lied to," I grumble but he's right. I really can't be arsed going across town, not when I need to be around to make sure that Fraser doesn't do anything to sabotage either me or Lando this weekend. He doesn't dignify that with an answer and so I go about searching my suitcases for something to sleep in. Eventually I settle on a pair of Luke's boxers and a white racerback tank top that I was planning on travelling home in but I now need to protect my modesty.
I take that and my toiletries with me to the bathroom, showering, changing and doing my skincare routine for long enough to get Lando banging on my door. "Would you please finish up in there? It's been forty five minutes!" He yells through it as I check the watch on my wrist to see that he isn't necessarily wrong.
"I need more time," I call back as I hop onto the counter, crossing one leg over the other as I pick up my phone and press call to Luke. I don't know what I'm hoping for? I guess primarily I'm trying to annoy Lando who has stopped banging on the door and has now retreated with annoyed rumblings. "Hey," I say as I hear the ring tone stop and a click of connection.
"Hello baby... how's it going?" He says gruffly, as though he's just woken up which seems insane because it's almost ten in Australia making it the middle of the afternoon with him.
"It's going well... Lando confirmed that I got the contract," I say softly, waiting for a reaction through the phone however I don't really get one.
"Ah that's great," he says lazily, as though there's something else taking his attention.
"What are you doing?" I ask him sharply, suspicion filling my chest and clouding my mind, the words louder than I wanted to be as the line goes quiet and so do Lando's annoyed quips from outside the door.
"Nothing, just at the gym," he lies smoothly and I breathe out as he reacts to the alertness in his voice. "I look forward to celebrating with you on Sunday?" He offers as the silence grows like a balloon in my chest, the same disappointment nestling in my chest.
"I don't fly back until Monday and it's a long flight because I'm in Australia. So not Sunday..." I say quietly, covering my mouth with one hand in the hope to stop Lando from hearing in case he is at the door. "Not sure I want to celebrate with you anyway... Lucy is coming to town to help with some changes," I opt for the less clearly confrontational turn of events, currently a fiction but I know Lucy will come if I ask for her to plus it would genuinely be useful. "Enjoy the gym..." I say before hanging up, resisting the urge to throw my phone at the door.
Why can't I just yell at him? Tell him it's over and that I hate him? That's what a sane person would do and despite knowing all of that - I can't do it. I hate him I do but for the life of me I can't leave... and now I'm stuck in a room with Lando I can't do my alternative way of dealing with things either.
