Lando's POV

"What happened last night?" Mila asks me for the twelfth time in as many minutes, making me regret saying yes when she asked me to play in the pool with her. I repress the urge to throw the ball in my hands directly into her face where she is sat on the steps, instead I just smile, trying to stay calm. My inability to keep my cool must be very clear though as she puts her hands up innocently, copying the look that Max had given me when I similarly refused to answer his question about what happened after he went to bed last night just twenty minutes ago. All I could say was thank god it was Mila who saw us though, at least she was just confused rather than dead annoying like I had no doubt that Max would be. Mila was too cute to stay mad at and so I refrained from an eye roll as I waded over to her in the water, her tiny little hands lowering as she held them out to be picked up by me. "Because..."

"I already told you little one," I try to remind her that I already took her through the highlights of the night. Her tiny little face looks unimpressed at me for the nickname and the avoidance of the question as she frowns at me, her arms not going around my neck but instead on my chest as she tries to keep herself at eye level with me.

"I mean after the game... you and Daisy..." she whispers the last three words directly into my ear, the secret so unsecret that a four year old knew to whisper about it when discussing.

"What about me and Daisy?" I ask her back, trying not act like it's a forbidden topic, although I can't quite stop myself from whispering it back to her. She looks at me unimpressed once more and I can't help as my eyes go to where I know she is sitting with Lucy and Damon, laughing as they catch-up on the second day of the holiday, enjoying the sun. I can see Lucy is slowly but surely coming to be reassured that she was right to trust not just Daisy but me as well when I had called her to vouch for her and her job, knowing that she needed it to have any chance of keeping her head above water. "She won the game, beating your dad at the last minute, because as we already agreed... she's magical. I guess I just got a little bit swept away by the magic... I mean you remember how beautiful she was last night." I remind her, my heart beating unusually quickly as I confess words that would normally remain in my head. Mila's eyes narrow as she looks at where my eyes have drifted to where Daisy is sat, today in a khaki version of the one piece swimsuit that felt like it was covering too much. Maybe she knew she was the topic of conversation or maybe she was just looking around but this time when I found myself drawn to looking at her, she's staring back at me and further explanation comes out. "I guess I was a little enchanted."

That was an understatement. Somehow, somewhere throughout the course of tidying up I'd been completely undone and hypnotised. My hand had a life of it's own and when her eyes had met mine, I'd not even been in control of my thumb as it had drifted from her cheek down to her lips, tracing the area that I wanted to revisit more than I wanted to breathe. The worst and most frustrating part of it all is that I really think I would have had the opportunity if Mila hadn't walked in. It's hardly like it was the first time that the opportunity had presented itself but normally it was one of us, getting scared and pulling away. Last night felt different. I wasn't close to pulling away and the look in her eyes just suggested that she was getting closer. It was that feeling, that instinct that was really messing with my head this morning. I didn't want to say anything about it to her, or out loud in general in case she got cold feet and began to pull away from me. I needed that to not happen and so, like every other time before, I ignored it.

"I don't think so," Mila says shrugging casually and this time it's my turn to frown as I look at the little female version of my brother and see her staring plainly back at me. I'm confused and it's clearly shown on my face as Mila giggles as though it's obvious. "Daisy was the one who looked enchanted," she says, the words like a gut punch from how simply they were said, as though it was obvious for anyone to see. Little Mila had no idea the meaning her words held for me, how could she? I just laugh, trying to brush them off as she looks at me seriously.
