Daisy's POV

Morning after Silverstone, 2023

"What happened last night?"

What happened is I kissed you. What happened is it felt right. I felt fireworks, I felt warmth, I felt safety in your arms and then all I could think about was how I had ruined our friendship. I was going to lose you because I wasn't ready for this but I was willing to have an adult conversation and explain all that. Explain how much you meant to me but that it was my fault and I was going to both regret it and remember for the rest of my life if it costs me you.

Oh well... it clearly wasn't that memorable. This at least saved me from having to say any of those embarrassing words.

Belgium weekend 2023

"Can you please just give it a rest?" I ask Lando as we get off the plane with bags in hand and he glares at me. "Apologise because we both know that you do feel bad. Then drive, go on holiday and report back to me on how amazing it is!"

"I'm sure your holidays with Luke were far more glamorous," Lando retorts, ignoring the plea but I'm confident that I've already gotten through to him on that issue.

"What holidays? Yeah we had trips but do I look like someone that's taken a holiday and actually not looked at my phone in the last couple of years?" I snigger as I wave the device I'm currently on as though to prove a point.

"When was the last holiday you had?"

"When did we go away with your family?" I ask absent mindedly and hear a gasp of shock, stopping me in my place as I'm forced to look over my shoulder to where he has stopped in place dramatically.

"You're kidding?"

"I'm not... why would I be kidding?" I ask him, still not sparing a glance as I look at the contract on my phone, squinting at the letters that are just a little too small. I might need to seriously think about an iPad given how busy I am these weekends now.

"Because that's not normal..."

"I mean I take days off - like with Miami," I mumble, finally looking up to see the wide eyes of the kid I grew up with as he stares at me worriedly.

"You took one day off and that day you still travelled for work and spent the evening at a work dinner," Lando tries to point out and I shrug it off.

"Dinner with you isn't a work dinner," I say quietly before looking back down at my phone. That's enough to stunlock him for the rest of the journey to the hotel and I think that it's the end of the conversation until we get to the airport on the Sunday and I'm ready to hug him goodbye at which point he announces that I'm flying with him and Max to Belgium for Martin's gig tonight. He tells me on the helicopter that it's not just for the night as he's already got Lucy covering for me for the next couple of weeks while I try to take some time off. My ability to do so that holiday could be debated but it was a great trip and there were some days where I only answered a couple of messages each day which for me felt like a big moment.

Work became a necessary escape on the last days where I was more aware than anyone else of Lando and Elena's little tryst given my room was next door to his. I didn't sleep that night - shock - too busy overhearing the breathy moans that came from the room next door as my stomach turned so hard at the noise that I actually threw up the alcohol I had consumed before going downstairs with my laptop - desperate to just avoid the most of the interaction. I was planning on going back up to bed later in the morning but just ended up working through the night, ignoring the clear concern on Max's face when he saw that I clearly hadn't had a wink of sleep.
